As if they ain't done enough to screw with the cost of living, now they want to drive us deeper and deeper into debt.

It's a thinly disguised power... well.. land grab by the government, utterly disgusting when you have folks working 40 odd hours a week who are getting by whilst renting. I doubt I'll ever be able to buy a house or anything more than a 2 bedroom flat to be honest.

I would not want the government to have control over the housing market, that's even more overreach.

Are there actually any housing associations/councils with houses to rent then buy? Surely those that had them have sold them off and pissed away the profits already :/

A house here in the street is being rented out for 1200 Euro's a month. The same type house a few numbers away, not bought by a investor but by social renter, is being rented for half this price.
The market is broken right now.

I have right to buy on my house but I'm not stupid enough to live above my means and get into debt, I'm in no debt whatsoever and don't intend to be.

Plus it's a prefab so it would be hard to get a mortgage on it anyway.

Wish they'd* just shuddup and build council houses already!

* labour councils too**. Only a month ago in Wales we had elections where our council promised to build 10x more houses in one term than they have in the last 10 whole years when they were in power!!! Many of them are landlords themselves, its no wonder rents are high and Welsh Labour (with a historical majority-to-super-majority on the Senedd (Welsh Parliament)) keep torpedoing the pledged rent controls

** apologies for going political, but in fairness it's not party-political here because it has been a Labour-run administration with devolved law making powers since 1999 so is aimed at our government executive ***

*** I'm not critising from the right, I'm criticising from the left as a socialist who took a bunch of painkillers and did my best to limp out campaigning for the socialists fighting for rent control and council housing in the last two Welsh elections.

I do love the whole "Right to Own" philosophy, but the bit that's always annoyed the crap out of me is that they only ever took that money and ran.
There should've been a "if 1 is sold, build 2 more" rule, or something to that effect.
Housing, especially cheap council housing, is definitely needed nowadays.

The only time I ever hear about council builds, nowadays, is when they rope in the big Estate builders to "include some affordable housing", and that usually spirals in cost until, all of a sudden, the cheapest houses are 150k or more.
It's disgraceful, imo.

He promised "one for one" replacements for social homes sold under the scheme amid criticism over whether the reforms will reduce housing stock.
Daily Mirror 09.06.2022 - https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/breaking-pm-announces-huge-housing-27189037

The oriiginal Thatcher scheme set out to do the same. How many houses were replaced? 5% according to figures I read yesterday, but unfortunately can't find right now.

He also promised to build 300,000 new homes a year. How many have been built since this promise? Nowhere near that amount.

He also promised £3.5m each week for the NHS - instead we are paying more NI to cover the NHS.

Promises. Promises. Promises. Not worth the toilet paper they were written on.

Brighton and Hove City has the Greens as our council, all they give a fuck about is building student accommodations, cycle lanes and shutting off personal vehicle access to here there and fuckin' everywhere, they don't give a fuck about housing those that really need it nowadays.

And on top of that Caroline Lucas is a hypocrite, she's supposed to be the Green leader and yet she drives a fuckin' Range Rover.

Is there no Nitrogen problem elsewhere? Environment laws make it almost impossible to build homes. It sparked a small peasant revolt yesterday over here when it was announced that a lot of farms need to quit their business. A large group of farmers and their tractors went to the personal home of a minister and demanded a conversation. Outrage all around.

They also promised to reduce immigration, did that happen? Hell no.

All as bad as each other, just deciding which one to mess us all aorund with.

Less government and more individual liberty plz
