I've been a shmup fan for quite a long time - I mostly make games of this genre too!

What would you say sets Platypus apart in the genre (is it more than visuals) ?

Blitz Basic, obv.
Anthony Flack's original was quite the showcase for Blitz back in the early days of the original Blitz-2D PC version.

Also the first (and perhaps only) Blitz game to see a proper Playstation port.

I see. So a marked victory to Blitz products, three of em technically.

The Windows version was originally written in the very first version of Blitz Basic, later ported to Blitz Plus, and then to Blitz Max. For the PSP version, the MumboJumbo developers ported it to Cᐩᐩ .

Looks like some Playstation and Xbox versions too.

Remember seeing the Playstation version on store shelves.

It was also the game that exposed Guildhall Leisure/Idiotcon. George Bray was on record saying how horrible it was for people to think if the game ever got popular that they would not give Anthony more money than what his contract was. Of course the game did, and of course they never did.

Will shut up to keep Jay happy, but happy to always discuss the details privately on Idiotcon and the other programming languages they destroyed and targeted with their completely schizophrenic ideas and demands.

I wonder if Cletus will see a reboot?
