Commander Keen beta discovered on 20 year old disk!

https://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comments/c8uq0/commander_keen_beta_discovered_on_20_year_old_disk/
"A pre-release copy of Commander Keen: Invasion of the Vorticons was discovered on a 20 year old floppy disk, and can be downloaded or played online at RGB Classic Games.

The amazing discovery came when a forum member posted a disk image of a Gamer's Edge Sampler of Dangerous Dave and Catacomb in this forum thread and noted that a hex editor had apparently discovered some source code from Keen 1 in it. A member of the Public Commander Keen Forum scanned the image with an undelete program and discovered the disk had previously contained a copy of Commander Keen: Invasion of the Vorticons that had been erased, and the disk was reused as the master disk for a Gamer's Edge Sampler disk. He was able to recover a complete copy of Keen 1, as well as corrupted files from Keen 2,"

So, wait, floppy disk images go so deep than they can even store undeleted files?

Can somebody PLEASE explain why I still can't use Amiga floppys?!!?!

Undelete was a common feature until MS removed it for unknown reasons. Delete only removed the entry from the disk directory by putting a special character in the place of the first character of the filename.

What I want to know is how someone found a 20 year old floppy that still worked? Even my DVDs are degrading faster than that!

I've still got games on floppy from '91 that work fine!

DVDs do degrade quite easily though - for long term storage, CDs last longer.

didn't delete just change the first character to ! or something like that, so Del filename.ext would really jusr Ren filename.ext !ilename.ext, then DOS wouldn't find it?

Also, didn't amiga disks have a 'better' file system that didn't rely on a FAT to work?

-Unrelated- I remember having a Tri-formatted disk from a magazine, which was part-formatted for MSDOS, AOS and Amiga, My cross-dos enabled A1200 used to go mental when reading it and usually detected it as two disks.
