Wednesday Workshop #122 : The Halloween Challenge 3
Time until Deadline

Week : 24 October 2007
The Reason : Halloween is next Wednesday, so lets make a bunch of games in preperation!

The Challenge : This week, do something halloweeny. It can be anything you like.

Weekly Rules/How to Enter
You have until Tuesday Night/Wednesday Morning 00:00 BST to submit your levels. ^ See Deadline Link! ^

Wed.Workshop is at Spooky SoCoder.co.nr. If you can read this, you're probably already there!

Stick your entry underneath this post, leaving a link to your zip or the source of your game, or whatever. (I really should get round to that Upload thing, shouldn't I!)

If you can't figure it out, or have a really rubbish server, send it to Jayenkai@Gmail.com and I'll stick it straight onto the Skeleton SoCoder (Official Wed.Workshop) site.

Entries will be collected during the week, and then entered into the next week's voting. (If there are any entries..)

Please try to keep all entries within small file sizes. 2Mb is the average maximum for files.
Additional Rules are available at the Scary SoCoder (Official Wed.Workshop) site, under the list of previous workshops.

Last Week's Games
Phoenix entered the only game last week, so that means he wins by default.
But due to the nature of last week's challenge, he won't officially be declared the winner for the next 8 years.
That should give you plenty of time to play the game and then vote on it to win.

Heh, I remember the last (I think it was the last) Halloween challenge... I actually entered.

Still though, was that just last year? My game seems so terrible now that I look back.

Would an interactive drinking game count as something 'halloweeny'? If that's the case, I'm going to slap together a game to promote Smirnof Vodka!

Hey what happened to my advertisement post?
Jay?

|edit| It didn't have a point, wasn't related to the workshop, didn't have any text, and was purely there as an advert. |edit|

Just like to say that I have a game but I'm just in the final test stages before publishing it. I don't want to give you a game than falls apart!

Just a few tweeking minutes should do it.

Sorry about that.

Right, it's not finished but it's in a finished playable state.

Halloween Maze

You play a witch. Complete with green skin and orange hair

Navigate your way around a randomly generated maze (of random dimensions) in the dark with just a flickering lantern to light your way.

Collect all the ingredients Eye of Newt, Wing of Bat, Toe of Frog (or rather whole frog's legs) and a sparkling Toadstool for good measure. Then find your bubbling cauldron to complete the game.

Pumpkins hold power-ups so be sure to smash them open! There's a clock that freezes time, a broomstick that lets you fly over the maze, a map of the maze (that sadly isn't working yet) and a large lantern for double visibility! Unfortunately for you, two pumpkins are empty, but there's nothing to lose.

Apart from the map (though it doesn't even work yet) all power-ups are time limited. However, the broomstick returns to it's pumpkin and can be used again!

Cursor Keys to move, Space to smash

If you look in the gfx folder, you'll also see a ghost... again, something I didn't have time to add. He should roam around the maze and sap your energy on contact...

So, 2 late entries this week. (Better 2 late ones than none!)
Forklift Fred's Halloween Maze, and JohnESmith's Space Monster.
If you'd like, you can use this topic to organize little Network Play rounds of JohnE's game.
Both games are here.

Thanks for taking the screen Jeyenkai, but I think there may be something wrong. Also, I would like to say that I was lazy and used Krylar's mapmaker and tile functions (which turned out to be a pain) and Blitzplay Lite. So I can't exactly claim this work to be exclusively mine own. I'm not much of a programmer so don't expect anything amazing. Also, jayenkai, how did you take the screen, because if it was in game, there's something seriously wrong since the screen resolution is totally off, the map (which appearently did not load properly) seems odd, and the HUD and the target aren't showing (among other things).

LOL! Yeah, sorry..

Um.. Couldn't grab a screeny!
I tried PaintShop Pro's Capture thing, which usually does the trick.
Surprisingly it didn't!
So I then tried the PrintScreen, which also didn't work, and lastly tried Irfanview.
Really not sure why, but none of the above worked. It might be my onboard gfx card being dodgy, I'm not sure.
So.. I duped the screenshot! I kinda got the basic idea of the game right, I think, so I didn't think you'd mind

right, no problem, I just wanted to see if the game was bugging up or if the map wasn't loading correctly. It might have something to do with the graphics settings I had, it gave me some errors when I used the usual so I changed around the numbers until it worked.
