This is probably a Stupid question but how can I compare the contents of two drives that do not have the same folder hierarchy?

Question: What do you want to achieve with the comparison ?

Well, a good folder/content comparison program is https://winmerge.org/
i currently do not have it installed, but it would be my choice, if i ever need to compare someting.

Other tools
SyncToy by Microsoft (though, I'm not sure if that's Win11 compatible...?)

And FreeFileSync which is what I use on MacOS, but also has Linux and Win versions.

I have two drives with different file hierarchies. I need to know where, and if, the same file exists on both drives somewhere.

How did you get that idea from the text?

Thanks for the tip Jay but I think the software makes copies with the same hierarchy. I have a different one on each drive.

Maybe time to make them the same hierarchy then? It'd likely solve a lot of issues.
I know that once I'd decided on a specific folder structure for all my dev-stuff, everything got a little easier to manage.
Even the entirety of SoCoder, AGameAWeek, JSE, Shoebox, Browsercade, Foldapuz, etc are all contained within identical folder structures on the server, on my laptop, and on the backup. Keeping everything maintained in a similar structure helps move things between backups, and so on.
If you have the option to do that, then I'd probably go for it.

As for the virus remark, in the past few days you've asked about ways to completely fill a hard drive, finding a method to do a giant for-loop, and now talk about comparing files in different folder layouts. I'm just saying!!!

Yes. That was because I had to return a hard drive to the store and wanted to make sure to overwrite the information on the drive so that it could not be recovered.
I usually format the drive with veracrypt but forgot to do that in that drive.

FreeSyncFile is clever showing the relative paths.
It's something I'll have to get used to interpreting.
After Looking at this output, reorganizing might be the choice. Tedious but complete.
