Animated Score Boards

So I've gone back to developing a Snake styled game and need an opinon on which of these animated score boards to put in there. I'm not sure if the spinning colours is overkill or not. What's your thoughts?

The spinning one was a right pain in the arse to do.

The one with the most compliments will be put into the game.

That spinning one looks lovely, but I wouldn't do the whole scoreboard like that. Maybe have the flatter style for the majority of the board, but the spinning one for the score just earned..?

Do you mean like one spinning image plane behind the digits instead of the seven individual ones?

Came up with a way of combining the two and adjusting colours.

Loving these!

Particularly #3

I personally like the colours and simplicity of the sinewave in Board #2. Also real snakes have a sinewave like movement.

Yeah, I'm still with #2.
For clarification..

Are you talking "score board", a table of the previous highscores, or "score display", the current score in the GUI?

Score display.

For the hi-score table I was thinking put one big fanwheel effect behind the whole thing.

Well, if it's ingame, then.. I might change my opinion to #1. I feel that #2+ might be a bit too distracting..?

What I'll do is get on with the rest of the game and then play around with the ideas and other ones if any arise. At that point I'll use screen capture to get the whole screen, the phone camera does it no justice.

I kind of like #2 for in-game too, the subtle wave effect isn't too distracting.

I did try the top of #4 on its own, I've known LSD experimenters to have hallucinations a lot less stronger than that.

There is a free screen capturing software called GifCam for windows.

There's also Windows itself, assuming you have a modern edition.
Winkey+G should bring up the Xbox Game Bar, which "should" include a screen capture button.

Thanks Dan, I'll have a look later.

@Jay:
It's been a while since I last used the Win 10 built in capture, I had forgotten about that.

#4

Socoder was being a dildo and would not let me reply with just "#4" telling me my reply was too tiny, although that was the only reply needed. Hopefully this is long enough now.

It would be so handy to have something on here where members can check a box in a list so I can compare who likes what. A bit like how the polls are done but where it can be used in a post.

In this thread alone.

1. You added more options, later.
Do we restart the poll, or are previous votes skewed? How do we alert people that they need to re-vote?

2. The poll was reclarified "score board or score display".
My response changed because of this.
How do I unvote/revote?

3. Discussion was had, not just voiceless clicks.

Well, lets say you have made a vote.
If the poll is changed, then the post will be upped (be somewhere near the top place of the sidebar).
Additionally, you could add a "new" or "(new)" text (for the people who have voted), right before/under/over/next to the text of the thread title ?!!

Maybe new poll: 28.12.2022 ? or Updated Poll: 28.12.2022 ?

P.s. i just have noticed that in the "Advent of creativity5" thread, i liked my own posts instead of the previous ones ... i am used to the facebook style, where the like buttons are placed after the post, not before.

I prefer to top one (#2 orange with slight animation)

Yes, handy for research which is why many polls are made on a programming forum.

IMHO, one should not even be allowed to thumb their own posts.

Been getting on albeit slowly, I constructed the score board and added a colour fanwheel effect.

The lines between the entries will be masked out later.

I like that. That's lovely!

Is there some way you can highlight "your score"?
For my games I tend to bump "your score" out a bit, so it's more obvious.

Thanks for that bump idea Jay, I might use that.
