New Year Resolutions : 2023

1. I need to reconstruct the Newsletter.
Over the past year it's becoming more and more frustrating, trying to find decent YouTube clips to put at the bottom of the newsletter.
Between "All the good sketches becoming Portrait mode Shorts", to "Oh my god, the fucking adverts", that section's getting harder to do each week.
"I wonder if this is a good cover version.. .. a minute of adverts and 2 seconds of the song later... Nope.."
Rinse and repeat several hundred times.
... Every smegging week.

So, I'm scrapping the YouTube section, and am currently trying to decide what can replace it.
I'm currently thinking "Podcast Picks".
Would that be something you'd like to see?

2. Tutorials.
Dear god, does GotoJSE need some tutorials, but I just haven't been able to find the time to do any.
But this requires..

3. Speak
Back in March, I kitted out my room with one of those fancy Mics on a big arm, and added a little powered mixer, and all that.
.. Then did what I always do, and chickened out of putting my crappy voice onto the internet.
I need to fix that. And I think making those JSE Tutorials might be the way to force myself into doing it.

4. Less / NO (!!?!) SmileBASIC
For the past few years I was doing 1 game a week in SmileBASIC, but once I hit game number 150 (Fuxake!) I started to wind down. Mostly due to lack of fresh ideas.
I've been doing one a month for the past 4 or 5 months (can't even remember, at this point!!) but.. I think I've come to the end of that particular journey now.
.. Mostly because, this month, I haven't come up with ANYTHING that I can make on there, and .. I don't think that's going to fix itself any time soon.

5. SX-5b
I have a project in mind for this year, and that's the codename I've given it.
I'm not sure how far I'll get into it, if at all, but it's a nice idea.. And it's somewhat different from my usual set of games.
A few, much needed, fresh ideas.

1. Get to the gym more often.
I made it to the gym 96 times last year, which is just over 1 in every 4 days, this year, 1 in every 3 would be better.

2. Invest more into Dividend stocks, more regularly.
I've played my hand with some more risky start-up companies so far in the stock market and whilst I'm still confident that they will eventually come to fruitiion, I need to be investing as much as I can into safer Dividend paying stocks instead, just to balance things out a bit.

3. Code up some more NES games.
I just need to get some more across the finishing line, which leads onto the next one.

4. Self- Publish a NES Game or two.
I just want to get some games sold this coming year. I've gotten tired of the endless delays and promises which seem to lead to very little and have been chatting again to peeps who sell the appropraite kit.

5. Keep an eye on my income and expenses, ensure I've got a bit more safety margin than currently.

1. Finish something, anything, seriously I don't think I've ever finished a project in my life!

Jay - Get right onto that video tutorial idea, the sooner you start, the sooner you will get used to how your voice sounds to other people.

6. Patreon
Thankyou Spinal!

I need to figure out SOMETHING that I can give back to Patreons, but without making it something that subtracts from the things I normally post.

.. Also, I definitely need to streamline how I add/remove Patreons to all the various sites, because.. Bloody hell!!!!
Can't even find them in the Shoebox script!
I'm thinking maybe one giant .js array file in a central script somewhere, and have all the different sites grab the data from that.

In my head, for the past 6 months or so, a tutorial idea I've had in mind is to start of with a classic bit of BASIC.. Like 10 Print "Hello World", 20 Goto 10, then evolve it, line by line, stripping out the oldskool line numbers, adding a repeat forever, expanding it with keyboard controls, insert sound effects, put in scores and lives, and eventually convert it to be a full GameHandler based game, so that it has saved high scores and such..

All little by little, line by line.

Every time I hit the record button, I'm like "oh god, no.." and the file gets deleted.

Get up every day and be the best "me" I can be, which includes being the best "husband" and "step-father" I can be.

Bunged the first investment of the year into TATE, wrote up the plan of action for the rest of Novembers game, just need to pull through on that swiftly.
