Favourite Development

Sitting here doing the dull boring task of menu making.
I hate menus..

But what do you LOVE in development?
What’s your absolutely favourite sort of code to make?

I enjoy the early parts of gamedev, where you’re piecing the first elements together. I think that’s why I keep doing AGameAWeek. It's that early point where you’re not quite sure if the game will work, yet, and are blindly cobbling keywords and commands together in the hope that it springs to life.

I love the start of a new project, planning it out , getting the first bits on screen and working. That applies for game, web and application development for me.

I utterly despise it when I hit obscure, undocumented bugs when they appear which then consume an entire afternoon to get around though.

Apologies for the radio silence of late btw, crohns flare up knocked me for six, back to it again soon though ( the code that is)

Oh, also, the feeling of having completed a project is great!

Web / Game Dev, occasionally finishes off coding games also!

The first real play of a new game is always best. Seeing all the individual elements coming together and actually working - maybe not exactly as planned, but not too far from your "vision." And then getting your arse handed to you on a plate as the AI bests you. That is always great

The start is always the best, but I think generally like the way all that logic knits together to form something, its pretty cool when you think.

I have a spot for bugs, like, I dunno... You find a bug and you have no idea where its is, and it drives you round the bend, because the logic looks right... And your on for days... Evenings drift by and then, finally, you nail it... and usually its the simplest thing where you just roll your eyes thinking to yourself "You divvy"

But the relief of getting it is great, it's like "Yes... I can move on!" \o/

On my Android project, which is getting to be a good old size now, I havent really had that, its all sorta dropped in canny (Which is worrying, lol), both client and server code seem to be talking to each other nice, manipulating mySQL data is playing nice.

Yeah, there is things I will change when I get the "meat" done, like the GUI, general presentation of screen layouts etc, but... Aye... I'm quite content, so content that sometimes, if your up at 4.30am in the morning, you could catch me on here as I have myself a coffee and doing a spot of coding!

And I've never done that for years mind!

Start of a projects cool and gratifying, shoe horning in a little more functionality you didn't think feasible is also sweet. Bugs are getting more persistent these days though, it's the final polish I'm not big on.

Happy coding!
