I've only just finished ordering an Alienware Alpha core i5, myself.
Doesn't compare to GfK's rig, but is a large step up from the lappy I'm running currently.

I've got an AMD Bulldozer 8320 8-core Black Edition, 16GB-1600mhz Ram with 2TB HDD. It's OKish, but I'm now wondering if I should have gone for an i7 setup instead.

It isnt 32GB Ram seem bit overkill?

The game of today used 8GB Ram and in coming years...it will be using 16GB Ram one day!

Yeah, but I think GfKs thinking about future proofing. 8 might be ok for a majority of today's games, but things like Elite and GTAV are expecting more and more stuff in your system.
You've also got to plan ahead for VR type stuff, which is also on the horizon.

... And you can capture some lovely videos with all that tech!

Aye, that looks like the same configuration, therevillsgames - though in the US they don't even offer Office or Adobe stuff, as they're trying to market it as a console gaming system. Silly.

Hopefully it lasts at least that long.
.. but given how fast PC tech, and more importantly Display tech, is improving, I have a sneaky feeling it might not make it all that way!

I've learnt my lessons with PC cases and I always try to get one of the largest I can get due to the air flow... and in Oz you need good air flow!!!

My last case was the Antec Solo and you couldnt fit in the newer GPUs without cutting a bit out of the HDD cage!

The current case I have is the Antec P183 (5+ years old now), its nice and big

@9572AD - I'm half tempted to get an Alienware Area-51, but the price really puts me off.

Best PC upgrade I've done, i.e. the one with the most performance boost wasn't ram, processor, etc.

It was going from a standard HDD to an SSD, even with a relatively slow processor (just an old 2nd gen i5 clocked at 2.6Ghz) this second hand lenovo t420 now runs everything I need to throw at it with aplomb. I grabbed a Samsung EVO 850 - 256Gb and yeah, so much faster!

Boosted my home PC from an HDD to an SDHD and it, too gave really nice speed improvements over ram upgrades, etc. Running an old AMD FX1 Chipset with a triple core @ 2.1Ghz.

These PC's aren't massively specced up but with the slowest part of them sped up it almost feels like the processor is actually being used a bit more Haven't tried out any video editing on them recently but when I need to, I'll give that a whirl.

Still, yes, a friend of mine showed me a copy of Cutom PC magazine and I was all whoaaaa, that 4 thousand pound rig, that seemed to be similar spec to your gfk, nice!

@therevillsgames - I don't know the conversion to AUD, but that model is USD$800. If you want something you can upgrade, it's not for you. If you want to do resolutions above 1080p, it's not for you. Otherwise, it's very difficult to find the same performance for the price...at least here.

@jay - unfortunately that doesnt take into account the "Aussie Tax" which companies seem to add onto many items over here!!

That's not "Aussie Tax", that's "The US price doesn't include any tax"..
People are always whinging about such things in the UK, too, but it's not until they experience it first hand that they go "Oh yeah, taxes!"

My old boss bought an iPad when he was in the US, because "It's WAY cheaper!"
.. He soon learned his lesson once he got to the checkout, and the bill suddenly shot up!

Its been proven that companies have charged Australians more:

"Last year the inquiry heard examples of an Arctic Monkeys album costing $17.99 on iTunes in Australia but the equivalent of $13 overseas, and the movie Toy Story costing $24.99 in Australia but about $10 overseas."
