You can wait you know. Wait for reviews of 10 to come in before jumping (or staying).

You've got a whole year before deciding in fact.

Yup, I just spotted that, too.
I clicked on it. Frankly, I HATED Win8, but Win8.1 was actually a MUCH better OS.
Win 8.1 lets you USE the Windows part of Windows like you used to, and is therefore a much more worthy OS than the
crapfest that 8 was.

So, yeah, I'm all for the upgrade to Win10. Hopefully it won't be the horror that Win8 was.
I say go for it. If nothing else, there's bound to be a downgrade option somewhere in there.

I'm being a daring adventurous coder, and hopefully won't be shouting and screaming* when the upgrade happens.

(*too much)

I'll be sticking With 7 for a while as my main still. I'll probably put 10 over the top of my Windows 8 install mind you.

Did you get the pop-up on 8.1 Jay?

I've got 8.1 (and like it too), but not seen this yet.

Yup, 8.1.. the Windows logo shows up on the bottom right.

A comment on IGN says how to remove it from the taskbar -

if you want to hide the notification icon after reserving it :

Control Panel > Notification Area Icons > GWX > Hide icon (or only show notifications) and it goes away.

Yeah, that's more a "how to use the OS" thing.. Really bloody basic!!! If you're an avid windows fan, and you couldn't figure that out, then...
... Well, you're probably one of those people who complained about getting a free U2 album, because "OMG it clogged up all of my interwebs!!"

Windows 8.1 is good - Very fast and efficient. Faster than 7 I'm told, but I've not used 7 so can't confirm this. I'm guessing 10 will remove any niggles that people had with 8 and Microsoft will come at 10 with those niggles in mind and it will be a very good Operating System.

As a developer I think you don't have much choice. People will move to 10 and you need a 10 box to test.

Who was that aimed at Jay?

I agree as window 8.1 users and it is great. All you need is Start8 add on which is only £4.99(for one off) if you want window 7 start button feel....

Wasn't aimed at anyone specifically, just the fact that things like "How to hide icons from the toolbar" probably shouldn't be something we're only just learning!!!

I didn't know if it was just an icon on the toolbar or something more... evil, hence I posted the IGN reply.

Moving/removing icons etc. from toolbars/desktops/other places should be the most obvious thing in the world on ANY OS, not just Windows (even in Metro it's not difficult - that was the very first thing I did when I started 8.1 for the first time - removed all the shite).

Hurray! Now you simply have to wait 2 whole months before the apparent release date of 29th of July!!

This "reserving" thing is just marketing... MS has said that Win10 will be "free" for users running Win7 and Win8 for 12 months after the release...

When it is released, I'll just download the ISO and either put it on an SD stick or DVD and install it from there...
