That pebble palette is hard to work with. Was hoping to have zero dithering, but the closest colours to the ones I need are far too bright.

Did the CPC version of Max Headroom not have a coloured Max? You could rip that rather than colouring the Speccy version.

Looking rather good though

I'll have a look, but wasn't the cpc similar spec to the c64? They did a pretty terrible job of porting the end credits on the c64 version --

Most CPC games, if ported, tended to be from the ZX rather than C64, due to chipset similarities.
In a lot of cases, CPC games are recoloured ZX ones, whereas C64 were rewritten from scratch.

Yep - Speccy and CPC are both Z80, so little needs changing codewise.

Wow this is a crappy game to play. The controls are insane, there's not much info on what you're supposed to be doing. Not only that, there's no cheats for inf. energy or skip to end

I've had a quick glance through the disk image, and the memory save, but can't spot Max anywhere obvious, although knowing CPC coding styles, it's probably hidden in symbol-esque binary data, as opposed to flat standard pixel dots.
Will try again tomorrow.

It seems that the max headroom disk/tape images on the net just don't work.

I played through the tape (different downloads), and got the above for an ending. I also tried the disk, again multiple downloads and it didn't even load the ending.

If anyone else wants to see if their version has a working ending use my following guide.

*note - the controls are ye olde odd.
You control an icons selector, bottom right lets you move around, top left calls elevator, i'll let you guess the rest.

from the start, select 'E' on the 8 segment display. the segments fade out over about 4 seconds, so make sure to keep them on. once you get to the floor (200 i think), call the elevator, it will arrive at the oposite end of the level (top right) once inside goto floor 'P' you will then be asked for some security codes.
The following will work if its the first game, not sure if they randomise if you die or not.

Paul Ranson - 94
Jim Baguleys - 05
John Pickford - C6
Peter Harrison - 5A

Once there, call the elevator, again opposite side, goto floor 'L' you will be asked for thr President code, which is 8B.
Now, max is in the top left room, run because theirs bounty hunters around. once you have him call the elevator and run for it.

If your version og the game works, you'll get an end sequence, if not, you wont.

good luck

Yup, sure is.
Both the Pickford Bros are on Twitter. Wouldn't hurt to ask...!

@JPickford @StePickford @PickfordBros

(The Pickford Bros later went on to create the wonderful Plok, as well as Sticky Balls, which you might remember from BlitzCoder..)

... Be sure to suggest a Plok-Watch, whilst you're at it!!!

Not sure how well that would go down... "Hi guys! I wanted to steal your graphics for an unlicensed project but couldn't because the CPC version of your game is broken. Please give me the graphics I want for free!..."

Just tested the disk image they have to download, still broken end sequence... bah.

Hey Max! now your rendered with a tile map!

See those missing parts of the background, that because I'm not using a transparent max, so theres bits of tile there. I think i'll leave it like that, give it a bit of 8bit charm.
