My brother suggested I save some money (27$/month isn't much, but enough to make a slight dent in a student budget) by setting up the Project Dollhouse server on a box at home and run it from here.
Only problem is: My dad's concerned about opening up 2 ports.
So... any suggestions for security besides running a gateway server (which would entail more coding and possibly money)?

Leaving a port open isn't too bad, as long as you've got something at the end of that port, and you know exactly what's running through it. Just keep your eye on it, and keep track of what's passing through your network.
