I find it slightly bizarre and amazing that some game I made in a week when I was seventeen is still remembered by anyone! Still doing anything with this? I want royalties you know, in the 7-digit range.

Assuming $00000.01 counts as a 7-digit range

Jay... forgive me..

You see above the current intro for 'Joe' on OUYA. I apologise for the blurry fastness, OSX is not the place for creates animated gifs

Anyhoo, what do you guys think? Sure the artwork is terrible and the story is a little thin but....?

(I was thinking along the lines of the Lemmings 2 intro for inspiration.

Officially, I was only planning on an OUYA version, but if someone wanted a different version, I'm sure I could get some inputs working on other platforms (currently I have remove most input detection other than gamepad). My main testing is done in html5 right now, can't do an iOS version, I let my license laps.

This is Joe. He always wanted to become a game developer, but being from the 16-bit era meant that the big console companies would charge him more than his life savings to publish a game. But he has heard of and old wise man who lives in the 1-bit caves, an 8-bit character who can help him on his way to becoming a game developer in a new era of home consoles. Help Joe collect all of the talisman and find the wise man to start him on his journey to becoming a game developer!

Help Joe collect all of the talisman and find the wise man...

That bit sounds awkward, but otherwise -

Is it done yet?

Almost! There is a 1/0 on the title screen to remove and as far as the testing I've done goes, it seems to work fine.

Joe has been approved, so I've set it to available. Although there are a couple of very minor bugs and a suggestion from OUYA. I did however get a much better email than the plain old "Your game works, well done"...

Some feedback from OUYA: Love the game, especially the enlightenment from [Censored - see spoiler in above post if you want to know] at the end! Nothing critical to note. There were a few things to mention from our test period. At the end of the game when all items were collected, the controller screen briefly appeared upon entering the final room with [Censored - see spoiler in above post if you want to know]. The Continue option initially is initially over the No button ad can cause the user to accidentally restart there game. In one instance Joe spawned out of world after losing all lives and continuing. We captured a screenshot but were not able to bring up the map to see exactly where it was. Other than that game is great and a real treat to play. The game even reminded me of the film Dead Man at times. Loved it!

I've fixed the controls screen bug and the continue = yes suggestion. They'll be working as suggested in the next upload. The randomly spawning in the wrong place bug however is a different story. Can't seem to recreate it myself... might tke a while to find.

Congrats on getting your game through review
Good to see they played the game right the way through, too! That's nice!
They really are a proper set of reviewers, aren't they.

Monkey-Tip : For some bugs, I've found that switching to GLFW/Desktop compile mode, and setting the thing to Debug, rather than Release mode, helps track down more bugs that most other compiles. GLFW appears to be the most nagging edition, whenever it comes across an array-out-of-bounds error, or similar such issues.

Tweaks

Settings : The overscan setting doesn't seem to save unless you also tweak the sound/music volumes along with it. Not sure what that's all about!

Death Quote : It spiralled off into "knowing-gag" territory fairly quickly. Suggest the first few deaths stay as "You died" stuff, before getting sillier the more times the player's died.
Also, you spelt Phoenix wrong in one of the death quotes!

Otherwise, it played well for all the time I gave it. Blinding headache this morning, though, so I couldn't give it as much time as I wanted to.. grr...
