Socoder -> What Have You Done -> What is it you're working on? - October 2013

Haven't done this in a while.

I'm still working on Project Dollhouse. Haven't had much time lately due to insane workloads at uni, but my commit frequency always seems to peak at this time of year anyway.

Some statistics

  • 502 files of C#
  • 127 files of C
  • 49 files of C++
  • 41 files of HTML
  • 22 files of Lua
  • 19 makefiles
  • 11 batchfiles
  • 10 files of Ada
  • 9 files of PHP

  • 5 open issues, 8 closed
  • 6 branches
  • 196 commits
  • 47,057 lines added between June 17th 2012 and October 27th 2013 (master branch)
  • 23,376 lines removed between June 17th 2012 and October 27th 2013

Plans for the future

  • Release first milestone, Kon Tiki, before Christmas
  • Make sure all buttons in all screens of the milestone have functionality
  • Try to iron out most networking related bugs and features (right now, graceful authentication failure and re-authentication/connection is most notable)
  • Implement GonzoNet (lovingly named after Maxis' Gonzo UI library) that will provide shared networking functionality for client and servers.

Edit: Some quick maths suggests that we've almost removed as many lines as we've added to the project in the timeframe above!

47057 / 2 = 23528,5
We've added 23681

What are you working on?

Tsk, Mr Impatient couldn't wait until the scheduled "last Wednesday of the month" for the regular "what have you done" post???! Tsk tsk!!

Ups

What did you get done this month?
  • A lot, but nothing has been finished yet!

Did everything turn out as planned?
Sheep Goes Right was only supposed to be a quick'ish "month long" project, but then the whole Compendium thing sprang up, and now Sheep Goes Right is sort of in the background whilst that gets done.
Lots to do, and no time to do it!!

    Downs

    What didn't you get done?
  • Playing GTAV a lot..

    Why not?
Dunno, really, just can't seem to settle down to big play sessions. There always seems to be other things on my mind, like fixing Socoder bugs and tweaking recent games.
    Hmmm...
Aw well, I'm having fun, so sod the actual game I paid good money for!!!

    Now

What are you working on right now?
I'm being forced to do something that I wasn't scheduled to do until Wednesday!!!
    Grrr!!!!

    How's that going?
Meh.. Nothing interesting to report, really..

    Next

What's the plan for the month ahead?
  • Tax Forms

I should get my OUYA tax stuff sorted.
.. Failing that I'll just flood their marketplace until someone notices that I exist, and magically gives me oodles of TEH munies!!! That'll work, right?!!?

    At least you're making games.

23,681 lines, and this is what we have to show for it:

It's not the size, it's what you do with it.
In my case, I'm making games that nobody every damn well plays.
Yours will at least get an oodle's worth of notice, even if it ends up getting a C&D 2 minutes later.

It actually annoys me that everyone keeps saying that. All of the code is original. Yes, most of it is based on reverse engineering, but none of the project members had anything to do with that (he says, wishing he knew how to reverse engineer himself out of a paper bag...).
All of the code is freely available, and uses an original protocol designed and implemented from scratch. No files from the original client have been released as part of the repository, nor will they be.
Everything is completely transparent, and if we get a Cease and Decist, then so will these guys (who, incidentally, are also remaking the code for a title owned by EA).

    Ups

What did you get done this month.
  • Drench in Petit Computer for 3DS
  • Got my OUYA and eventually got something running on it
  • That's it. Nothing else

Did everything turn out as planned?
Nope. Everything has gone tits up around me.

    Downs

    What didn't you get done?
  • A working OUYA game
  • Pretty much everything I had planned

    Why not?
Everything around my house broke down, including the internet. It's amazing how much I missed it. I can cope without tv. I can cope without the radio. I can live without my phone. It's nigh on impossible to live without the internet though!

    Now

What are you working on right now?
Catching up on stuff that I didn't get done due to all of the above.

    How's that going?
    Very slowly.

    Next

What's the plan for the month ahead?
  • Get AquaVenture to be playable, if not saleable, on OUYA
  • Work on something Xmas related? Maybe a fuller SantaMania or something.

This month I ported a game to OUYA (and then cut the price to 99c from $1.99, until Halloween anyway)

I'm supposed to be doing an October game featuring Candy for OneGameAMonth but I haven't even started yet so the JJ port might have to make do as my October game.

    |edit| I ended up doing a game for onegameamonth after all.
