I hate android programming, no matter what i do, whenever i make an app it wont install. Even if i’m compiling from example source. Every IDE, ever language, every device. Nothing works.

Do you have any specific information on that? e.g., Logcat results, error codes, etc? 'Cause I'm going to bet you're forgetting something obvious.

Everything I've compiled on Android has worked, but getting the orientation right on a phone has been a bastard. It's working properly in an Android emulator, but on an actual device my landscape app always gets squished or stretched in the wrong and never fills the screen properly.

No error codes or anything, compiles without error, runs in the emulator just fine (when it decides to load), but as soon as i put it on my device I click install, it pops up saying "Did Not Install". I've used Eclipse, IntelliJ, Xamarin, Mono, but it never works.

Well guys im officially retarded. Apparently android does not like Java 1.7 and only supports 1.3-1.6 as a base. Wow.

Well, yeah, the documentation mentions that. Plus it doesn't use the JVM, so it's not like it'd support 1.7 anyway.

On your PC you have to have java in order to compile. I have 1.7 and 1.6 but i must have accidentally set it to 1.7 .

I suppose it's a good thing that I'm too lazy to update to JDK 1.7. I've been on 1.6 since I started Java development (on eclipse, at least... I think NetBeans has its own environment going on). I'm pretty sure that's been hindering my ability to contribute to open-source projects, but I just don't really feel the need to switch.

Well, that's good to know. It's been ages since I last compiled anything for my phone...must have been before Java 1.7 arrived since I updated without thinking about it.
