Thing is, the US can't afford to fight another war right now. Not without borrowing a craptonne of extra money from China, and China are allies with North Korea.
If the US is going to do anything about North Korea, they'd have to launch a missile and take 'em out in one blow (if they could even afford that).

It is the pot calling the kettle, but, in terms of it, Lets look at it, they have no nuclear warheads yet, and look how they go on... They are a very immature nation, you can quite simply ask "Would you give a child a grenade?", you wouldnt, and for nuclear weapons, this is why they shouldnt be allowed to have them at this present time...

Apparently, they want these devices for security, fair enough, but, do they really need them since, well, they have China who will, without doubt at the moment, protect them from any aggression from the West... China doesnt want the US right on its door step (Japan and indeed, South Korea is at arms length), so, this is indeed a deterrent enough to stop any so called aggression from the US and it's allies!

But the problem now for China though, is that because North Korea are actually stating they will "nuke" the US or it's allies, and as such, headlong in creating a capable nuclear weapon, is that the area will no doubt now, be beefed up with anti-missile systems, this will be a major problem for China because it's own nuclear deterrent will also be reduced as a result... No doubt about it... China will not like that at all.

I think we're a long way off that "check mate" move, but, it is interesting how the whole thing is evolving, and, I'm very intrigued for some reason about the whole show... Well, its better then anything on the tele!

NK won't do anything, they're just flexing. Hopefully they realize that they're mashed potatoes if they try to nuke the US. As for China needing NK as a buffer zone, I think that's less important these days. A military conflict between the US and China is extremely unlikely.

Well it is, but, China is still an ally of North Korea and resigned a treaty in 2001 that states that it will pledge immediate military help if North Korea is attacked from an outside force, this treaty runs till about 2020 or something.

This treaty is the backbone of North Korea's defence, China doesnt want a war with the US, the US doesnt want a war with China, North Korea simply doesnt need a nuclear weapon to protect itself, it is, more importantly, legally protected already.

So even though a war is unlikely, the way North Korea is going makes it more probable, they want tension in the area, tension leads to twitchyness, a simple small scale incident can magnify to something heavier.

There is a game being played out there at the minute, just this second its come on the news they might be gearing up for a fourth nuclear test, this will make things even more twitchy, probably to the dismay of China too.

Its all go!

What's interesting about this situation is that, like I said, the US budget doesn't allow for another war.
And North Korea... let's face it, they can't wage a war with the US. Not realistically, anyway. So it's really down to nukes.
