Back... Well... Well... Where do I start?

Right, basically, what I do, with the aid of the father-in-law, is go out, buy knackered old houses from auctions, do them up, sell them on.

I do most of the work, ripping out, putting back together, build extensions, all the groundworks, he does the lecky side because that's what he does, he does most of the running about, we both take a wage from it (Well, I take more of a wage because he's classed as semi retired, so, only takes money from it when he isnt playing golf, lol) sell the house in question, take a percentage out for ourselves, the rest goes into the next one.

It's been pretty kind so far, yeah, chew ons along the way with the council, planners, subcontractors, f'ing heritage people and the biggest nuisance of all... The neighbours. (That's for another day and socoders mySQL server may not take it)

We've both put a lot into it, time, money, especially the money because I've used our savings to get started, wasnt millions, but, that very first auction, I walked out of the Marriot Hotel without a single penny to my name, but hey, I had half dibs on a knackered house!

So, all in all, we got started, done the first house, sold it... Great... Got a second one from an auction, a bungalow, got it at a brill price, done the biz on it, a bloke walked in while I was plastering the thing proclaiming he wanted to buy it! Result!!!

Moving on, we got another, the one I'm in now, a big bugger, got it cheap as chips, it was a wreck, big job, bonus is there is land at the back for two houses, and we're battling like mad to get them... So, while I was doing this one up, two beauties came up for auction, 2 two bedders, where one could easily be converted to a 3... Magnificent views, an absolute shit hole though, needed pulling back to the shell and starting again, as well as an extension... And here she is, finished:-

www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-40528778.html

Apart from the plumbing, lecky, windows and kitchen fitting... Thats all my handy work!

Moving on, we picked up that, and the one at Stanley (Which I'm working on now) while I was doing the one I'm squatting in now till we find out about the land. They were too good to miss, so, we, well, I went to the bank to see if they could do a bit on the equity in the house we have which is now rented out.

Bit of a squabble later, managed to get some funds released, and went in for them.

Everything has gone into this them... The lot... But, I'm happy!

Now, come April 1st (I'm sure the tax people only use that date for a piss take), we would have had these houses for two years, one is up for sale, one is nearly finished, out of them two years, the taxman has had his bit, off my wage, jeffs part time wage, tax from the money earned on the bit profit we make and as well as the tax on the money I get from rent from my house...

The VAT man must be clapping his hands too, I think we're single handily keeping the planning and building control departments in biscuits, everyone, literally everyone has had their cut, and I dont mind that, if we need to pay for something, then, its only right we do, I dont mind paying my way, I like too in fact.

Then, I got news of this:-

In addition, we are proposing that long-term empty properties (those which have been empty for two years or more) are charged Council Tax at a premium rate of 150% of Council Tax, which will help encourage the owners of these properties to bring them back into use.

(Taken from this document: www.durham.gov.uk/Pages/Service.aspx?ServiceId=8964)

Well, the propositions are through, and they are indeed, going to charge 150%, from April 1st, on houses which we have.

I just cannot believe it... All that work, effort, moments when I've thought "What am I doing?", and the council are going to charge us 75% (When compared to a single person living at the property) extra for the privilege of noone using their sodding bins!

These houses were absolute shit holes when we got them, literally un-livable anyway in regards to a standard quality of living, granted, smack heads would call them home, but, their the only ones that would.

It seems, no matter what you do, how hard you try, that, just as you feel like your making headway, the state always seem to grab you by the scruff of the neck and yank you backwards.

Now... I'm not blaming the tories, or anyone in central government as a whole, because, I'm on the understanding that no party could do a better job then the other, cuts were inevitable, industry would indeed take a hit, its happening here and across the globe.

What does bug me, and has me really annoyed, annoyed enough to ring my MP tomorrow in fact (Who is Labour) and let him know how I feel, let him know that I know exactly what goes on in the council, what is wasted, and instead of hitting the hard working, they should turn the revolver on themselves...

Tomorrow I'm staying off work, see what I can do... I'm going to centre parks on the afternoon and was going into work on the morning... But, I really really really begrudge having to pay that... This is my living, aiming to sort out my own retirement... Not line some cunt elses pockets who can retire when they are 50, when they want me to do this shit till I'm 70 or pay for housing to some drop outs whose only aim in life is to have 8 kids!

I think.... I'm ready... To move abroad now please, thank you!

Its the usual "Lets charge more for it to make people do something about it" it never changes!

how can they justify charging 150% for an empty property!

Madness, just madness.

Also, that's a cracking view from that back door. Love the fire too.
