Don't be so sad about it, it's just like having to buy a 3DS to play New Super Mario Bros 2, even though there's fuck all 3D going on in it.
This shit happens all the time, and Apple's just getting into the HardwareGreed game that, quite frankly, they've always been in!
Still getting cheap-as-fuck games, though, and you get a nice new 5mp camera, to boot!

Dear Apple, just so you know, not allowing me to play new apps on my technically capable ipod touch just because you say so, loses YOU money as I will no longer buy apps and will not upgrade my ipod either. If you hadn’t made that move, then I probably would have upgraded eventually as it’s getting old, so you’ve lost out.

It feels like the tide is kinda starting to turn for Apple, just as Windows 8 is on the horizon.

iMaps was terrible, people miss the YouTube and Google Maps apps, no real improvements in the last update (I've also noticed a lot of bugs that weren't there before), and the iPhone 5 has no real features that make you go wow (even though it is a better phone).

Yeah, it seems the improvements made to the iPod Touch have, for once, greatly outweighed those of the iPhone, it's a very curious situation, but then I guess they're starting to run out of shit to add to the thing!

I think Apple are pretty much nearing the top of the hill now - it'll be difficult for them to continue their monumental growth; it'll be all downhill again soon...

I really should update my iPod Touch (I'm still using a 2nd gen IIRC and the battery no longer lasts that long), but the cost is off-putting, especially since the features the new machines have are of little/no use/benefit to me. I don't need retina or a camera or even googlemaps etc. I have them on other devices I carry with me all the time. My 32GB iPod Touch is for games only - I don't even have any music on it.

Meanwhile, I'm spending tonight doing that really big job. Updating my DevKit!
Hopefully it should be as easy as letting AppStore install XCode, with all its dev-y stuff ready and able.
I've also grabbed a new edition of Cocos2D, too, though... annoyingly I'll have to dig through all of that, and re-Easy-Coco the bugger! (I'll post any interesting results, later on)

Worst, though, is my typing. It's absolutely terrible, and I'm clunking around randomly hitting odd keys, and .. fuck, this keyboard is REALLY noisy, compared to the silence of a touchscreen!!!

|edit| Additionally, scrollwheel feels really freakin' weird, now! |edit|

Apple has always done something of that nature throughout their whole product line, spinal.

It's something that has held them back over the years. They have more worth on the stock market but still lag in global users.

Your car engine is capable of 5000+ RPM. However, this generates excessive heat and is dangerious for the motor. Similar principal here. Apple doesn't expect the user to figure this out so they put restrictions in place. You can call it what you wish. Apple does this for the developers so they don't have to worry unnecessarily. The renown stablity, preformance, and battery life of iOS is the direct result of decisions like this.

You should go Android if you don't like this.

After a good 3 hours, or so, my iDev centre is now a bag of crap. None of my games run on my iPad, since the old version of Cocos doesn't know how to handle the new iPad's retina display. Ugh.
It took me way too long getting to that stage, so it'll have to wait for another day before I attempt to fix that.
FFS, why can't this stuff be simpler!?

Apple's batteries would last even longer if they didn't allow you to turn the device on! If you don't like it go to Android and embrace the chaos.

The only think I can remember of the iPhone 5 are the words 'thinner', 'faster', 'lighter', and the phrase, 'it just screams'.

I can't see any reason that even Apple fanboys would want an iPhone5. There is zero inovation there at all, Oh, wain, and extra row of icons, cydia users have been able to do that practically from day one.

I love the iPhone 5. It's not that it's the absolute best phone spec wise, it's not that there is an extra row of icons.

For me It's just such a good feel in my hand, it's light but feels solid. The extra ~100px doesn't seem like much but when I'm reading stuff in the browser it makes it a nicer experience.

I'd consider an android phone, but I'm so tied into the apple ecosystem (not to mention airplay).

  • They might really like the iPhone 4, which is an excellent device.
  • It is *twice* as powerful.
  • Longer battery life.

Ok, none of the that is ground breaking. However it's not like the iPhone 4 or 4S are bad phones, and the iPhone 5 is still better than them.

If you wanted to replace your iPhone, I don't know why you wouldn't get an iPhone 5.

If I just bought an iPhone last year, why would I want to replace it already? (not that I have an iPhone)

If you were already on a contract, which was running out, and had that whole "free upgrade" stuff to deal with, though, why wouldn't you?
I dunno, the iPod definitely comes off as a bigger upgrade, this time around. It's odd to see things go in that direction.

Speaking of.. My iPod order is now showing a mid-November delivery date. Fook! That's what happens when you leave things up to crappy catalogue companies.
