JL235	This is why they use Octopus Cards in HK. You put cash on the card, take it to any store, and then pay instantly by just tapping a panel. You don't even have to get the card out, it works through the wallet. They make cash payments look slow!

steve_ancell	Those HK touch and pay systems sound nice and hi-tech and all that, but lets just hope that nobody finds out how to make a touch and steal device.

JL235	The distance on them is tiny, you have to get pretty close for them to work. Although yes they can work through your wallet or handbag, typically it's only through one side. Like copying a credit card, you'd have to actually get your hands on it, and the beauty of the touch system is that you never hand them over (your the one doing the touching). Also it's only really used for small amounts of money. I think the absolute limit is around £100, which although is major, is still pretty small when compared to stealing someone's credit card, and that's only if you put that much on it. I only ever had around £5 - £20 on mine.

Jayenkai	The issue for us in the UK is that we're still, for stupid stupid reasons, using god-damn dial-up for all those Pay-point/Pay-zone machines. Paypoint have recently started using the hovery-magiccy card stuff, but it still takes half a smegging hour to dial the bank and take the cash out, thereby completely killing the entire bloody point of it. sucks. -=-=- ''Load, Next List!''
