Socoder -> Basic Basement -> Cool basic

Anyone used coolbasic to evaluate it against the others?

Actually after looking at it more it seems to be like BB3D. There are a lot of languages out the now that are mimicking the BB command structure, Darkbasic being the other.

All the end users for these languages have to go somewhere and could wind up landing on, and improving, any one of them should programmers find a particular nuance in the structure that might convert them.

All in Finnish. Wow!!

In perspective to what I've seen so far, it's not much different to BlitzBasic classic. All that's needed now is an English documentation then it will make an excellent tool for the financially challenged to learn with.

That's what it looks like. It's a shame that nothing is in english.

It got me to thinking, who copied who. Darkbasic, Coolbasic, Blitz and who knows what else may be incarnations of one another.

BLitz was originally on the Amiga so that was first.

It's still under development so it might get English docs at some point, if the CoolBasic team doesn't do it a third party might.

BASIC dates back far before the Amiga. It was invented in the 60s and even then it's influenced heavily by Fortran, Algo and others (so you could claim it's dates back further).

Since then the current implementations have just tweaked and added bits. That's why I personally don't have much respect for all these basic clones because they tend to add very little. This is except for the VB family because love them or hate them at least they take the language to places it hadn't been before (like Excel and Windows scripting, and building GUIs is a doddle).

Yes that's right but I was referring to the syntax. Almost all the commands are the same.

You can find plenty of libraries with similar command lists for plenty of non-BASIC languages.

Anyone ever had speed problems with coolbasic.

I'm running the editor and some of the samples move in a rather jerky fashion.

Here is one sample that I converted

It's much slower in cool for some reason.

The same is true for Blitz3D, or it is on my machine anyway, until you add the following to the top of the code:

I was referring to Cool basic being slower than BB. But since you are correct in this instance, the same technique might work for cool basic.

Has anyone looked at the lessons folder yet, lesson-19 is fucking awesome. In order for the files to work, you need copy the "Media" folder from the root directory into the "Help/lessons" folder.
