If you're watching the ongoing telethon with tons of artists and TV stars performing and saying nice things to get people to donate for Haiti, don't call the 'international' number on the screen!
I did, and the woman I talked to used 10 minutes to figure out I couldn't donate because I was calling from Norway. Then I went to https://www.hopeforhaitinow.org, and tried to donate twice using PayPal. Each time seemed like it might have worked, but I didn't get any confirmation mail or any notification on the PayPal or the Hope For Haiti page saying whether or not the transaction actually got through!
FFS

(Technically I called up and read my credit card number, which took a while. Then I had to give my address and expiration date and everything... it wasn't until I was going to give my zip code she noticed I was from Norway. FFS, if it's not possible to donate internationally, say so in the beginning of the conversation, and don't call it an 'international' number!!)

There's better, and simpler ways you could've done that. Through your bank itself would probably be #1..

Don't trust any TV show that's not from your country. Usually if American's say "International", they mean "Not just mainland US", which isn't really international, it's just quicker than trying to list everyone that it includes!

I chose to donate £15 of the £30 that was on my phone's credit, because I know it'll never get used otherwise, but the fact that I could simply top up the phone, then donate using a simple text message is a fairly simple way to do it.

I have a bit of nitpicking to do.

I'm just sitting back watching how much help the citizens of Haiti are getting and how everyone is stepping up to help--it's impressive. But it really makes me think, why don't people step up and help those who are starving in Africa and stuff? Why can't they do this for them too?

Africa at least has a basic infrastructure. They know what they're doing, and although things are still insanely shite, they are at least managing.
Right now Haiti's gone from "Doing nicely" to "fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck!" and that's why the need the help.

The real question is what percentage of the people donating to Haiti turn up their noses at the homeless in their own neighborhood.

I'd imagine a hell of a lot. Especially 99% of the folk who were on the telethon.
