Socoder -> Nintendo Gaming -> Wii update bricks consoles...

Anyone that owns a Wii is recommended NOT to run the latest firmware update!

In the latest firmware update, in an attempt to stop homebrew (why?) Nintendo are updating some very sensitive files/chips on the Wii, using a very buggy installer. Everyone is recommended not to use the latest update because it is possible that your console will be bricked with absolutely no way of recovery, even if you have made no modifications at all.

Nintendo saying something

Thats right, completely unmodified consoles are getting bricked because Ninitedo's code is buggy.
People are even getting banned from the Nintendo forum for explaining the cause of the problem.

Now I'm avoiding updating because my Wii is out of warranty so Nintendo wont fix it for free no matter what.

That's what they get for specifically targeting homebrew, maybe they'll learn their lesson this time. The 'update' contains absolutely nothing in the way of features or improvements, it's a complete waste of time. Surely Nintendo has more important things to do than release buggy firmware that the homebrew community will work around in a matter of days anyway.

This is ridiculous, I think big games companies like this should encourage ingenuity, as this is where a lot of future programmers can practice making games and learn before they enter the industry and even end up working for Nintendo or other companies!

But I guess in the end the money is more important than giving bright new coders the opportunities.

Their biggest problem, is that the pirates wont update their firmware anyway. From what I have read, most of the pirates are still using whatever firmware came on their Wii and either installing required new files by hand, or downloading games that have been patched to not check firmware versions etc.
So by doing this, Nintendo are only irritating homebrew users who still buy games, that is people who are still customers. Surely focusing on disabling mod chips should be their main focus, not irritating their customers. I think I'm repeating myself again...
