Happy 25th Birthday, Quake

I didn't properly get into Quake until the 3rd. I was still an Amiga-boy when the original launched.
Even then it wasn't until I played the Dreamcast one.
On PC, I had Unreal Tournament, and that was more than enough.
On the Dreamcast, UT didn't quite feel right, and I preferred QIIIA instead.

Yeah I was still rocking with the Amiga when Q1 was released (1996), but when I got we got our first PC (Pentium 150Mhz (which I overclocked to 166Mhz )) it was on of the first games I bought... must have been around '97...

Never got into UT.

I was REALLY into UT. With all the mods maps and mutators, the gameplay was seemingly endless.
I had a PS1 styled gamepad for the PC, and found that holding the right hand side of the controller in my left hand, so I had easy access to all four face buttons and the two triggers, worked really well with the mouse in my right hand.
Mmmm.. Power Destruction!!

I see Epic are looking to relaunch UT, with their Online "Free to play" Pre-Alpha thing (which has seemingly been there for quite a while).
.. But. Honestly, I just don't trust modern games.
You KNOW that every single mod, map and mutator is going to cost £££ each, nowadays.
Bastards!!!

I was never into the original Quake - I preferred Doom. I loved Quake II though. Had Q3 on Dreamcast, and enjoyed a fair few local PvP matches. but really, that was it. If there are other Quake games, I haven't played them and don't really care.

I also preferred the TimeSplitters games to Quake too.

Timesplitters was awesome!
Been playing it recently on the Dolphin GameCube Emulator.
Aaah, memories.

The new early access Quake isn't too bad, unfortunately it makes me motion sick like nothing else.

I miss Unreal Tournament 2004 and you can't beat the feel of the old Quake 3 engine games.

It was my first FPS game. After seeing Warcraft and Command and Conquer I sold my Amiga and went PC. The phonebill for online play with Quake was quite something back then. Also me and my brother went to a couple of Local Quake Lan Parties.

Literally was just checking out Quake stuff today, not even realizing there was an anniversary around. Cool. I really enjoyed the first 3 Quakes. To be honest, my first Quake experience & first online gaming community was Quake 3 Arena. Spent many fun late nights playing that one. Then my brother and I (the other half of ProHiScore Studios) got into modding Q3A. Did a lot of that, building maps, creating skins and weapons, etc. I definitely went backwards and played Quake 1 and 2 at some point. Thoroughly enjoyed those too. Especially liked the fact that Trent Reznor (NIN) did the soundtrack for Quake 1. Still have my copy of Quake 3 Arena somewhere around here with the original documentation to boot.
