Art collection!

In the ongoing series 'Funny things that Afr0 picks up from eBay' (buying stuff from eBay is an addiction I never seem to quite get rid of, though I mainly buy things that I strictly need these days), I present to you;

Awesome, huh?

I picked it up for 30USD (plus 20USD shipping and handling), which was a complete bargain. I've checked out the pages for the gallery (https://www.vegalleries.com), and none of the original artworks from this production goes for less than 150 USD.

Here's another one I took, from slightly farther away:

'Now what does Afr0 strictly need this for?', you may ask. Good question!
Aside from binging me an undescribeable pleasure, it serves to remind me of the kind of artistic standard I should aim for professionally.

I take it it's more then just a sketch of a girl, what is so important about it?

It looks to be Disney, is it?

It's a sheet from a pencil sketch test.
Our local Warner Bros store used to have a wonderful big gallery, and sold loads of these.
Gorgeous.

Then they took 'em out, and shoved some t-shirts in the section.

What a fucking waste!

It's Disney's Sleeping Beauty, IIRC?

Yep, 10 points goes to HoboBen!
It's not just a 'sketch' - it's a production drawing that looks like it's been cleaned up to the point where it was ready to go to the Ink & Paint department to get transferred to a clear cel. The linework on it is incredible! Even though it is drawn with a pencil it *almost* looks like it was drawn in ink.
'Sleeping Beauty' was incidentally the last Disney production that used this technique - from '101 Dalmatians' onwards they just Xeroxed everything and sacked the entire Ink & Paint department.

Have you got a certificate proving it's from Disney? Without it it could be a fake.

Very nice. With that certificate you can turn this drawing in to cash in the future.

Good point there. Make sure you keep it protected, at least in a plastic sleeve.

Yeah it came wrapped in plastic, and I haven't opened it. At some point I'm probably going to have to frame it though. It's from... 1955, I think. Which means it's 55 years old. So unless I want it to crumble up, I'm going to have to make it more or less airtight.

Definitely worth framing it. Keep it safe!

Out of direct sunlight? Best to be safe with that sort of thing.

I also bought an antique on ebay, a 1940s hot wire Ammeter.

Beautiful thing in brass and the workings are so simple.

Until i connected a battery to it and burnt the hot wire so it is now useless. After 60 years of perfect working order i go and break due a school boy error.

I don't even know what an Ammeter is! :o

Jay, you should go to your local Warner Bros store and demand that they replace the silly t-shirts!!

Can't, store closed, got replaced by Disney store, which sells fuck all of interest.
As in, they sell generic "Mickey on a Mug" style crap, and not the fantastically lovely wonderful gifts I used to buy people from the WB shop.

@Afr0 a device to measure current in Amps.

Can't you unscrew the screw and replace the hotwire?

Wait, so you're not going to color it in?!

I actually thought about slapping a cel over it and try out inking. But then I'd have to buy ink and possibly an airbrush (for colouring).
And considering the result would be the same, if not better, when done in Photoshop... I don't know.

And no, I wouldn't attempt to scan a 55 year old drawing. That'd be stupid, even wrapped in plastic. But I could use the photographs I already took.

Scanning on a clean, flat-bed scanner should be perfectly safe. Only issue is if it's too large as you'll need to keep the edges propped up so it doesn't bend.
