Infantry Project

up to date information

Thanks everyone who tested Infantry the other week, that really mined out some bugs. For now, I am going to let off on developing the base warfare zone, and make a quick zone that will run constantly. It will be more fast paced, without so many choices. It will just be one class, and all of your weapons will be acquired in the field in a Deathmatch-style game with little added bonuses.

Who likes the idea? EOL is too hard to develop if it's constantly on with people wanting to play, plus there are alot of issues i need to fix with it before it progresses to the state i want it to be at. I think people would like a game with an ending objective, like a last man standing, or capture the flag style game.

Your main problem with a persistent world is that as one player builds, they get stronger and stronger until they pretty much win by default.

What would be better is if you could somehow level things off..

Maybe the bases simply degrade over time, and the turrets lose 1HP for every shot fired, or have a certain amount of bullets they can fire.. Things like that..
It means that, although you COULD spend a couple of hours in the arena, all on your own, and you COULD build up a huge army all for yourself... As soon as someone else is in play, it'll all start getting old, and eventually rot away, leaving you right back at square one.

And having little miniquests within that persistent world would help, too..

Taking a leaf from "Tanx 'n' Stuff" on the Amiga, you could have a big bunch of flags in the world, which the player carries over to their base.

Keep a flag within a radius of a base, and you get.. say.. 1 point every 10 seconds, for each flag..
But folk can come and nick your flags whenever they want to, so not only must you collect them. You also need to keep them safe.

Every 5 mins, count the points, name the Five-Minute-Flag winner, reset points, carry on..

So you, Jay, would like a Capture-The-Flag style game? something a little more fast-paced would be easier, as you said, a persistant zone is too involving for a game such as this. I will make a quick zone and knock up a test date, and see if people like this more than EOL
