Paranoia and alcohol intoxication? A dangerous combination!

Hehe strangely enough, those are two things that i partake in while working on it. But no, this is a project i've been meaning to unveil for the past few months, and i've finally gotten around to continuing on it.

The name comes from para (many) and nox (night) as in the many nights i've wasted over it ... not really, but the true meaning will be revealed sometime

The music in the first video isn't mine, it is Dualtrax - church of s!p, though the second tune is a studio collab i did with the talented Ubik, a quick mix of 'into the dark world' from FF3 (one of my favorite video game moments). All of the media and code is infact mine, which is 5 years of hard work (something i've been working on since the Blitzcoder days!) I actually have an evolution of the engine video that steps through all the little development projects i was doing at the time of my true understanding of game production... it's rather thin since it was kind of a demo for a job i landed back in '04. I'll attach it below.

Just to further give insight as to what this 'Paranox' is, it is infact what i said - Many many nights of development for this engine. I've also chose this name since alot of the locations within it are spawned from recurring dreams i had during my learning period which still hasn't passed over me.

This will be the fourth time i've actually overhauled this concept for the engine, and the first time i'm actually releasing it to the public. I think this is what i was striving for when i first signed on to this project while i was still some dumb-minded kid.

Expect alot more.

Well, the graphics aren't spectacular, but the art is clearly inspired and very consistent in terms of style. Not that I'm complaining though, heck, the project I'm doing is in pure 2D!
The music is absolutely superb. Not really what you'd 'expect' in a medieval-type game, but it still fits very well. Maybe it's the surprise effect that makes it so good! Or it could be that the music is obviously harking back to the 'early' eras of gaming, with intros and demos being made by groups such as claSS, Myth, Razor1911 etc., and that this subconsciously makes you accept it as part of a game with an 'elderly' theme.
Heh, maybe I should become a game reviewer! ^^

Anyways, great work so far - keep it up!

The first video was a nice effect, but that's all it was. I hate to say this but I thought the third video was pretty poor. It reminded me of some small and simple FPS stuff I have done over the years and didn't look like anything special.

The second video though, I was really impressed with that. Especially the first half is really quite a beautiful scene. Everything about it was perfect and it gave me a real sense of freedom and adventure. It makes me want to get back to my RTS and get it finished.
