You've GOT to be kidding me...

Left Phone charging via USB again, last night.
Seemed fine, nothing wrong going on.

Woke up to find a dead screen, and the screen buttons flickering white in a really weird way.
Figured it'd probably crashed, so tried the off button. Didn't work.
Took out battery, left for a few secs.
Popped it back in.
Nothing.
Nada.

Having left it on Plug charge for a good couple of hours, (actually, it's more like 4+ hours..) it seems to have magically sprung back to life.

Not sure what that's all about, to be honest, but I'm guessing a USB charge isn't as good as a plug one.

A good few hours wasted, there...

Slight note : If I stick my Infrared headphones on, then turn on the charger, man.... is there some interference, or what!!!

Was your pc on whilst it was charging? Maybe it ran out of power.

That would assume my PC ever gets turned off

Maybe for some reason windows disables access to USB devices when they've been idle for X time and you've been idle for Y time?

To be honest, it's been charging it perfectly well over the past month.

I can only assume that USB charging isn't a proper charge, and that it eventually needs a real charge once in a while..

Make sure you're not plugging it into a low-power USB port (if your keyboard has USB ports in it, mac-style, they're too low power for some purposes) also I've noticed that some computers when they go to sleep stop charging my iPod...

was it in a usb hub?
is the wall adapter = > 5v?
if its more then it wasn't getting enough power

Apparently it's a common issue. USB's giving out a freaky power output compared to what the plug is.

I know my old phone always refused to charge through usb, but always charged using the supplied charger. Perhaps the phone is detecting usb signals and deciding that you are just not allowed to charge through usb. In the end though, I did find a usb driver for my phone that forced it to charge. But that was before it went for a ride in the washer-dryer, it didn't work at all after that.

USB power murdered my PDA.. it still worked but the battery apparently was overcharged and would cause strange effects like strobing on the display and other stuff that would cause random reboots. I don't trust USB charging anymore.. it worked fine after i charged it normally
