Sidechaining revelation. A runthrough on a hit score(youtube)

View on YouTube

I got a video suggested where a guy analyses a hit score by a hit composer. He shows lot of a ariana grand song and explains sidechaining and compression. I started using this myself now.

He mutes parts of the score to let you hear individual channels using a lot of jargon. The song I think is the actual real thing. I have watched it 3 times already. The video is 30 minutes.

I think for me these kind of video's really help me get to a more pro sound.

Ps - I ordered a microkey air(37) which wil be here this evening(hopefully!)

Gadget has Sidechain in the FX button. Never tried using it!!

Might have to have a fiddle.

In the video he explains the uses. Mostly to make instruments like the base drum hearable all the time. Ducking/dimming chained instruments to the beat. I think i used chaining in gadget before.

Finally got around to playing with it.
Same synth playing the same thing. One has Sidechaining on, the other doesn't.
The difference is quite dramatic.

The sidechaining effect has been used since the 70's.

I was reading comments in the video posted by me here and it seems there are quite some leaks of stems(channels) from top songs on youtube. These get analyzed by people there i think like the one here. They might be a nice way of learning more about production techniques.

edit :
I have now also been experimenting with swells. These are transition effects between patterns and are mentioned to be used a lot.
