I don't understand why there are so many languages catering to indie developers. Good thing about this one is it's free (seemingly).
I bet if they keep developing it you'll end up having to pay for features.
I'm glad I ended up down a path where I don't have to pay for IDE, compiler or features.

Agreed, aren't there enough languages now? It's just as bad on websites with so many souped up versions of javascript, php, etc. Mehh.

I'll stick with classic php, mysql, javascript, css and html as long as I can.

Having said that, I do love Unity 3D

Choice is important, as long as you can actually make a choice, and don't end up trying one after another after another, and not actually getting anything done!!

Pick one, focus, learn, get used to it, and advance. That's the main trick.

IMO : Price isn't important, as long as it's vaguely affordable. I can happily spend up to £100 on a language, as long as I know it'll do what I expect it to do.
Monkey gives me multi-platform coding, but it doesn't do a lot of things that I'd like to try my hand at.. Even simple 3D is a chore. But for what I do, it's happy to oblige.

But something like Unity, with its £x,xxx price tag as soon as you want to actually use the bloody thing? No thanks!!!

Just browsed the docs, not much to do backflips about. I do browser-based stuff now so NaaLaa can't do any justice for me. May be usful as a tool for teaching kids to program though.

So far I've paid nothing for Unity3D, the free one does what I need just fine.

I've bought a few plug-ins from it's asset store (mostly music and some advert extensions) to handle extra bits and bobs that I wouldn't be able to code up or create myself.

I went through a phase a few years ago where I popped from one language to another and couldn't find one I liked, aside from actionscript 2 with flash. That was nice to learn...so many years agoooo...Think I made I little demo in Blitz 3D come to think of it. Probably something simple like a tank going pewpew!

But yeah, choosing the language that's right for you, also the task at hand is really important!
