This would be a poll, but there's not a cat in hell's chance that Vista would win...

So, now that everyone's happy that there's a clear winner, Kelly Poe (a man) decided to make a website.

Release Windows 7
It's one of those online petition thingamajigs (firefox knew that?!), and has 1135 at the time of me posting this.

So, QOTD : Have you tried it yet, do you like it, and which is better?

From what I've heard it's got some bugs and is far from finished. I don't however understand where this hatred of Vista is from? Most polls would place you in a small minority of Vista users.

8 registry hacks..
It took me EIGHT registry hacks before folders would stay the way I damn well set them!!!

Should be a damn button somewhere, not hack-to-work!

I have it, and I prefer it over Vista. The changes aren't earth shattering, but the new task bar is welcome. Haven't encountered any program that doesn't work because of it being Windows 7, or at least to my knowledge. The standard programs have had some changes. Paint for the worse, in my opinion. Calculator has this nice bit view now though.

Vista is one of those things that works really well when it works well, and really badly when it screws up. See last 3 weeks of trying to get laptop back together. To be fair, it took 3 weeks cos I didn't have the time, and it all works again now, but the hassle is really quite annoying.

Still, it works fine for me now, and did before the crash, and I don't have that many problems for it. But Vista Paint sucks. All the colours are slightly off the 'pure' colours, which I find really annoying.

Everything about that new stupid taskbar.. gah, an OS shouldn't be defined over one neglectable feature. I'm liking 7, but it's finding small ways to piss me off.

For me, the task bar is the biggest improvement. I never found Vista to be unstable, but it just felt clunky and I liked the simplicity of XP. I think Microsoft has finally found the right UI look though for 7.

It's nice that they finally stepped up a notch now that everyone is pissed off about Vista. I hope they keep this up and don't slack off in the future (on Windows 8).

I still can't stand the multiple versions of Vista/Win7. Do we really need so many versions of Windows?

I agree stealth, I hate all of this 'premium, ultimate, GoDLIKE, SUPREME' nonsense, it's like 'Give us one freakin' OS for one price, and be done with it'

Obviously I'm going to vote for the new version, but if it were XP or Vista, I'd pick Vista.

I blame the EU for that by forcing Microsoft to make so many versions.

The EU are now trying to stop them from packaging IE with Windows, on competition grounds! Now, I hate IE because it's slow, crashy and clunky, but if you don't have a Firefox/Chrome installer, how do you connect to the internet without a browser to actually download one? Short of making your own browser, that is.

(Also, don't Apple package their browser with their Macs?)

and plenty of Linux distros not only supply multiple browsers but also tonnes and tonnes of other software like Office software, IDEs, compilers, e-mail clients, etc.

I'm not against free software being bundled with Linux, it's just that in comparison Windows comes bundled with very few applications. To me this EU court case makes no sense.

Well, Windows7 doesn't like my laptop, no drivers available for ANY of my hardware, I'm guessing its exactly the same with Vista, my laptops manufacturer says there's no way they're making vista drivers for my laptop. So my poor laptop is stuck with xp forever

Why would anyone release drivers for Windows 7? It's still in beta! For that reason I wouldn't presume it's the same for Vista.

Most vista drivers are compatable with windows 7.

Usually I expect an OS with a 16gb install footprint, to have a whole pile of drivers bundled with it. However, the best I could get out of it was 'default vga driver'.

Windows 7 is Vista, from what I've read from MS. It's just far less broken.
It could well have been Vista Service Pack 3 or something.

Working on a system and being released for a system are not the same thing.
