dev-c++ problem

6th September 2009

std::cin.get() is also a way to do it.
I'm not entirely sure about the technical difference, but I think that cin.get() reads a key from the Console INput (CIN), whereas cin.peek() peeks.
The behaviour of the two should be entirely similar unless you're*snip*

Ok, one vote for Accelerated C++!

What?

Thanks Agent Smith! :)
I'll take that book into consideration.
Hm...
That book now has two votes, I think.
'Thinking In C++' has one.
Unless anyone else pitches in with some more vote(s), I think we'll go with 'C++ Programming for the Absolute Beginne*snip*

This is the Official Socoder C++ Class!!!
That's why I named the thread as such!
As for devkits... I honestly don't care, and don't think it matters whether people use a hax0red version of VS2008, the Microsoft C++ Express Edition IDE+Compiler, Dev-C++ o*snip*

So far it seems me, Spare and steve_ancell, possibly shroom_monk, are up for it! If anyone would like to volunteer as teachers, you can let it be known in this thread. Otherwise I think... that the class p*snip*

I'm going to create a thread today probably, I just haven't had time yet.

Learning class?

2nd September 2009

Well... uhm.. we wouldn't neccessarily have to start a new forum section for it.
What they did on Gamedev.net was they chose a book, everyone did a chapter of the book every day, and if there were any things they didn't get the teachers would explain them*snip*

Would it be useful to start a subforum for C++ classes with instruct(ors) like they did on Gamedev.net?
I know I could teach away some things, though I am decidedly not the best C++ programmer here.
I'm thinking it might bring more people about... I don'*snip*

Inheriting abstract classes in C++

Blitz3D, AFAIK, does not support threads. Which is what I was getting at.

blitzmax >= blitz3d?

26th August 2009

Max natively supports threads, which is an advantage in itself.
From what I've seen, it also has a more active community in terms of people developing libraries and interfaces to native Windows dlls.
Max is almost certainly the right choice for a server *snip*
