Pinching the look from the Amstrad CPC game Roland In Time, and the gameplay from Net Yaroze's Time Slip, here's a fun little puzzle/action game with some time crystals!

I like the graphics! I'm noticing more and more that good gfx attract attention. Simple rectangles and lines and ovals just don't seem to stimulate the mind

I was watching a retro stream where I noticed large shadows on sprites of buildings and such really made them look good. I have been experimenting with adding programmatically drawn ellipsoid shadows below sprites lately. Seems to make things come out right I think.

edit: Here is something I cooked up a while ago. Based on Dune 2 from the Sega Genesis.

There are those shadows I've drawn below the tanks using code.

Desperately searching for ways for games to appear slightly different, and not exactly like the other 100 games I've done, this week I tackled an Isometric style.

... Pretty much the same damn game, though, if I'm honest.
Meh.

Platdude's Minecart Challenge

View on YouTube

Earlier today, this was a long long long minecart ride with just stars to collect and holes to avoid.
The "End" of a track would rarely ever be seen, but to double check that it would stop and generate a new track, I shortened the track to 250 tiles, and added a "goal"
And then I reached the goal, and the cart's momentum slowed, and .. something... something felt.. GOOD...

So I played with the cart's momentum a bit, and then came the idea of having a boost at the end, so I fiddled with the collecting of the stars, and made that into the boost, and kept the length of the track down at 250 tiles..
And now it's WAY more fun than it was.
And all because I needed to check the ending.

Kitten in a Barrel

View on YouTube

This game got stuck in GameDev Limbo for a good day or so, as I struggled to decide if I wanted it to be a "Falling in a barrel" game, or a "Dude with a gun makes his way down the tower" game.
In the end I opted for the barrel, because..
A ) The gunman would've been too similar to another game I made recently.
and
B ) My mind is in Monkey Ball hype mode!!

A simple little maths puzzle. Spin the crates so that all the row/column totals add up.
Nothing major, really, and if I'm honest, the graphical style seems to have made it a little difficult to "read".

Don't Break the Glass

View on YouTube

A few weeks ago, I tried my hand at a mini FPS.
This week, I've used my newfound Basic 3D skills to recreate a bit of the Amiga PD classic, Hyrdrozone, created by David Cruickshank.
I've stripped it down (mostly due to time constraints!) to just having the "dodge the walls" bit of the game.

Still, works well enough, right!?

If you'd like to make a card game or two, I've released a card sprite generator thing, which takes my typical 16x16 sized sprites, and generates 128x128 pixel add sprites.
