Hello World

Argh! Chaos!!
I'm writing the majority of the newsletter early, because I still need to do the ALChoon for this week, and I'm too far away from getting that done, that it'll probably end up taking most of the day, meaning I won't have time to write this, later.

It's 11am and the Newsletter's practically done. That's a good point to be at, right?
Now I need to get back to the ALChoon. And we've got visitors arriving in the next half hour or so, so either I sit here in silence not getting to do the ALChoon, or I sit here with headphones on, ignoring everyone.

Fuxake.
People!!
Social Skills!!!
Grrrr!!!!!!!

Pakz's Pencil

Pakz buys an Apple Pencil and starts doing some wonderful art inside Procreate on the iPad.

As well as the pics in the thread, he's been posting a lot of cloth-based pictures, vegetation and more, over on Twitter.
Go and follow him there, if you aren't already, before Twitter implodes and we lose everything uploaded to it.

Chatty Tuber

Spinal tries to convert his Max Headroom engine into a realtime YouTube Host.
It's not quite up to speed, but given what all it's having to do, it's doing a mighty fine job of things.
Can you think of anyway ways to help speed up the process a little?

Parlo - Security

Afr0 has posted the code that helps secure the communications from his Project Dollhouse game, to the server, and back again.

April of Photography

This month, instead of the usual MindPoke, we're having a Photo Challenge.
Every day is a different word. Can you take lovely photos of things?
Pop 'em in the thread if you can.

NESFab

A new language designed with NES development in mind.
Rychan gives his thoughts, mostly worried about the speed it might be able to manage on the slow-end NES.
If you do give it a go, be sure to let us see your results!

DPaint?

Pakz brings word of a DPaint-alike program that runs in your browser.
Though it isn't what I'd called DPaint, it is at least a nice implementation of an art package, and .. hey, it even opens up old Amiga images, so that's nice.

JNKPlat?

Back at college in 1997, I made a new game called JNKPlat using QBasic.
But the "Guy" sprite was wonky at best, since I had to hardcode the bloody thing, and it wasn't exactly easy to do in a language I was only just learning.
By the time we'd come back for next term in 1998, I'd written a sprite editor, so was able to make a proper looking sprite.
For JNKPlat 2, I drew a new character, taking cues from previous generations of the same "Crazy sprite guy" that I'd been evolving over the years. I drew what would become known as "Platdude", in his final form, for the very first time.
The timestamp on the first sprite is 16th April 1998, so that's what I tend to stick to as his "Birthday", and alarmingly, I've realised far too late that that's 25 years ago on Sunday.
As such, I've spent most of this week hastily cobbling together a semi-new version of JNKPlat using the same Javascript setup that Browsercade/Shoebox/SpikeDislike/JSE are all made from, and .. with any luck it should be ready to go by Sunday.

Everything else I'm supposed to be doing, this week, has fallen by the wayside!
Chaos Control!!! .. But without the control!

SoQuestioned

Regrets, I've had a few

This week's QOTD Questions include things like getting out of bed, meeting people and regrets.
Not in that order, and not necessarily to do with one another, but a nice grouping of questions none-the-less.

Bing's Poetry of the Week

Ziggy, Ziggy, super computer,
Helps Sam leap like a super shooter,
Calculating time and space,
Ziggy helps Sam find his place.

Ziggy knows what to do,
Helps Sam leap to something new,
With Ziggy's help he'll find his way,
And leap to another day.

Ziggy's always there to lend a hand,
Helping Sam complete his plan,
With Ziggy's help he'll make it through,
And leap to something new.

Ziggy, Ziggy, super computer,
Helps Sam leap like a super shooter,
Calculating time and space,
Ziggy helps Sam find his place.

Ben's the new leaper now,
Ziggy helps him leap somehow,
Calculating time and space,
Ziggy helps Ben find his place.

Ziggy knows what to do,
Helps Ben leap to something new,
With Ziggy's help he'll find his way,
And leap to another day.

Ziggy's always there to lend a hand,
Helping Ben complete his plan,
With Ziggy's help he'll make it through,
And leap to something new.
