The Shack!!!

https://www.engadget.com/2009/08/02/radio-shack-rebranding-to-the-shack/
RadioShack is be no more!!!
NOOooooo!

Sure, over here they rebranded to Tandy, so for us Brits it's probably not that big of a deal, but omg!wtf!bbq! RadioShack are dropping the Radio!

From now on, they'll be called "The Shack", which, to be totally honest, sounds stupid!

Wiki says, "A shack is a type of small house that is in disrepair."

As RadioShack it kinda worked. It was a neat brand name, and it felt right.

As "The Shack".. Doesn't sound good at all!!

"TechShack" probably would've done the job.
"CableShack"
"TandyShack!!!"

But just a rubbish little Shack!? Meh!

Tandy/RadioShack was killed of by Maplin over here in the UK, which in my opinion is pants, coz it was like part of British heritage, just like Woolies !

No worries, when was the last time you went to radioshack to purchase radio and other inexpensive hobbyist electronics equipment?

....Well?....

....Alright then. Sad to say, but may "the shack" and all it stands for burn in hell. The ones here are reduced to shitty rebadged computer parts, mobile phones, and one drawer dedicated to overpriced capacitors and switches that have blatant defects.

Back in the 80's, Tandy was quite affordable.

Does anyone remember those little paperback engineers project book they used to sell ?. I think I may still have a couple of those lying about somewhere !. I will keep a look out next time I have a clear out.

I think I'd still probably nip into Tandy, everytime I was in town, if indeed Tandy was still there.
It's not, and instead, as Steve says, there's now a Maplin.

Except I never go there, because the Maplin "In Town" is in one of the very many out of town shopping areas.

"In town" = about 3 interesting shops
"Out of town" = about 50-odd.. Of which you don't ever bother going to any..
f'ing typical!

But, yeah, if it were still there, I'd still visit, because it actually was in the middle of town, where the damn shops are meant to be.

I am disturbed by this trend.

The Shack is hot on the heels of The Hut, Mtn Dew and a variety of other baffling trademark devolutions.

If Microsoft ever changes its name to "The Soft," I'll find a way to drown myself in my own tears.
