From what I understand. Next year here in Holland. There is no way to buy tabacco products. Not online and in stores. Mass Cold Turkey.

I'm not sure if there wil be exceptions for the tabacco shops.

Government mandate?

There was a government initiative a number of years ago. Every year there are new limits on sale and use. Last year I think stores needed to hide tobacco from sight.

Today, doctors and others like cancer survivors and such. Asked for a total ban of sales right now.

A lot of people stil smoke. So I wonder if they can outlaw it completely soon.

I presume that they will make NRT (nicotine replacement therapies readily available), so that people aren't going cold-turkey.

I wish smoking would be banned everywhere tbh.

So ganja is legal but then they ban tobacco, what the fuck goes on in the heads of politicians turns mine to fog.

They're probably smoking what they're not banning

It's like as if these politicians legalise what they shouldn't and not what they should, it's like they're doing an XOR operation on the law. The way I see it if it grows from the ground then it should be available to everyone and governments should leave it the fuck alone, it's gonna add more to the black market and they know it, and a lot of corrupt politicians will capitalise on it.

It's going to be really hard.
"Choice" and "Freedom" and all those other words that will be rallied around, are all about to bombard the politicians.

American Prohibition is probably the only recent example I can think of this.
But, I think in this case, there'll be more people saying this is a good thing, than those who disagree.
But, damn, is it going to be hard!

I think I remember reading something recently about Australia doing this a much slower way and just increasing the legal age every year in hopes of stopping young people from buying. Doubt it will work as easy as that.

As a smoker, who likes a ciggie, especially with a coffee, I will admit, it's a horrible habit... No doubt, hands up, but, personally, I'm not a heavy smoker, from the moment I wake up until I go to bed, I smoke about 7 ciggies a day on average (Though I do smoke more when I'm out on the drink)

But now, I'm fully trained in the smoking outdoors... The smoking ban in public places like bars/restaurants etc was a great idea, because sometimes, it was even too much for me. But yeah, I dont smoke in my own house, it's either on the step at the back door, or if its raining I'll run to the shed. When I'm in someones house where they are smokers, I'll still go outside for a ciggie, I dont know why, but, I just prefer having a ciggie in the fresh air (Ironic, but, there we are)

When I'm on holiday, be it around the pool or on the beach, I'll always ask people if they mind if I fire one up, 99.9% of the time noone cares, but in Thailand, I asked a bloke near to me, and he said he would mind, so I just moved out of the way and had a tab, no issues, when I got back, he thanked me.

It is my habit, and I'll never let anyone have to put up with it if they dont want to, and instead of trying to ban it, if people want to smoke, then, thats their choice, again, it boils down to who owns your health... You or the state? What they should do is try to make smokers more polite to others with their habit, a lot do anyway I think now, but, you still people that couldn't give a shite where their smoke goes.

And I've always said, when the state clears up smoking, they wont stop at that... They'll be eye balling up drink as well, just like smokers are lepers for having a quiff, they'll turn the screw on drinkers, making that particular sin go up there on the same level as chicken molestering!

Anyway, I digress, people say I should stop because I dont smoke a lot, but, like I said, I like a tab, the biggest irony is years ago I stopped for 3 month, started going to the gym, felt like a million dollars, lol, anyway, ended up going to a stag do in Blackpool, few drinks in, ciggies were getting passed about, I was declining, more booze in, then had the aged old "Well, one night wouldnt hurt" thought, massive fail and bosh, next day, straight to the newsagents for a 20 box, where's the irony... Well, its the bastards of mates that were dishing them out have now stopped, and their the worst ones to complain if they get a whiff of tab smoke... I'm straight on'em like when they start to whinge! Gits

EDIT: And I've just checked, the biggest burden on the NHS is in fact, diabetes, which as we know, is associated with obesity... So, when it comes to it, the argument none smokers use is "Smoking puts pressure on the NHS" [Oh, and "It stinks"], well, yeah, it does, so do slips trips and falls, so are they going to ban eating and people walking down staircases with inadequate footware on? hehehe

My Mum had stopped for about 2 or 3 years or so, but then her Sister-in-Law, my Aunt Margaret passed away. Her and my sister went over to Ireland for the funeral, and all the stress of it caused her to cave in for "about a week or so"...
2 months later I was in hospital with my shit, and she never had a chance to stop again.
:/

I've never even started though. They say kids who live with parent smokers have a higher chance of becoming a smoker, but.. hell no, I smelt that shit enough as a kid!!

I never felt the need. But I started living in a home for young people, long ago. My first beer. Then my first smoke. If I never have gotten drunk, then I would not have smoked.
