Disrupt?, ... my bollocks!.

How can it be disruptive to the industry?, they say that it may struggle muscling-in a a big market that's dominated by Sony, XBox etc, well if that's the case then what the Peking-Duck are they waffling on about?.

I might wait for its existence to sink-in first before I buy one, just don't like the idea of a device that could potentially become a £65.00 doorstop.

What I hate about supposed gamers is they miss out PC gaming. Why is that? Is it not cool any more

Gaming has never been cool. Consoles are slightly more accepted than pcs though as pc gamers are nerds and geeks. And anyone that programs games is a weird crusty acne faced pastey 13 year old.

Gaming has never been cool.

My mam was addicted to bejeweled blitz on facebook... This... Single handidly kills any "cool" gaming had left!

Quite ironic though, since she used to whine like a good'un when I was a kid about spending to much time on my Amstrad!

I remember the whining too, especially when typing games in from magazines with the echos and pinging sounds from the keyboard.

I did come up with an idea of removing the keys and cutting out a thin cardboard pad, that would have been put in place prior to putting the keys back in, but I never got around to it and then replaced the CPC with an Amiga.

The Amiga keyboard was noisy too but I never got around to making a cardboard shock absorber for that either.

I went from CPC to Amiga too. My mum never moaned about the keyboard, although she did about my microswitched joystick that I loved. Noisy thing it was, but oh so comforatble and responsive

'ere Jay, my scenario was nothing like that Dave and Greenie link, it was more like "stop banging on that fucking keyboard". LOL

@rockford.
That microswitched joystick, was that the one that looked like a red gearknob?.

No, it was a Quickshot II special edition thingy

It looked like this one -

but it didn't have that text on the base or that (button/slide?).

|edit| Ah, here it is -

More info HERE

That was the last QuickShot joystick I bought (had about 5 before this one), but it lasted forever.

YouTube of how clicky the thing was -

I had one of those QS IIs too!

My mate had a Zipstik and Competition Pro for his C64. I really couldn't get on with either of them - they just didn't fit my hands properly.

I liked the idea of the Bug and SpeedKing back in the day, but due to the similarity to the Comp Pro I never bothered to investigate them. Supposedly great sticks though.

When I moved to the Amiga I used my MegaDrive pads. Best controllers I had ever used (upto that point).

Had a bug for a while, terrible thing it was. I was so glad to discover than a master system joypad worked on my c64 etc.

Why weren't joypads invented sooner? Would have saved us 8-bitters a fortune on knackered or crap joysticks.

you cant waggle a joypad very easily though. Would have made some sports games much harder/crapper.

Compared to other game genres there really weren't that many waggle games though.

They had been invented, some of us used to make our own.

Sega Master System came out about 1987, and came with a joypad you could plug into most home computers without issue..

They existed. They just weren't the in thing.
We had our joysticks. Consoles had "those cheap looking pad things", and that was just how it was.

We needed them back in 1982 for speccy and 1984 for CPC, not five years later!

As soon as I got my MegaDrive (1990) I used the pads on my Amiga. Two player Alien Breed on MD joypads was just ace.

You UNPLUGGED THE MOUSE?!!!?!?!??!?!?

It was a necessary and just cause. The mouse felt nothing.

An Amiga needs its mouse, it's not complete without it.

Me and an mate modded an old atari paddle controller into a steering wheel for the Amstrad!

I had more to do with the build then the actual wiring gubbins so the Amstrad picked it up, but it turned out pretty cool and worked a charm, we also had two peddles for accelerate and break but I cannot recall where he got them from, though, sewing machines spring to mind, not sure, I'll have to ask him when I see him!

Good times!!!

An Amiga only needs its mouse when doing mouse related tasks, otherwise it's redundant. Replacing the mouse with joypads was a very good thing for multi-player games

Were there any games that accepted analogue control for the CPC?

Were there any steering wheel accessories during the 8bit days? I can't remember any off hand.

You almost sound as though you never used the keyboard as the primary input for player one! What kind of crazy Amiga world did you live in!!?

Steering Wheel I can quite remember myself, either. I know they did foot pedals though. I had one of these!
.... But playing shitty "3D" racing games with it didn't exactly make for a better experience. .. Especially when you only ever really used the accelerate button!

Once Geoff Crammond's Grand Prix no the Amiga took off, though, it felt much better!!

My foot pedals were eventually donated to my "OMG! FlightSim!!" enthusiast friend, who kitted out his room with anything and everything that may or may not have fit inside a plane!
