There is no best tool, only tools you are comfortable with.

"WHICH genres/languages/tools/engines are best suited to rapid dev?

Whatever you're most comfortable with. Don't jump about trying different tools. Instead, settle into a rut with the tools you're already good with. And don't listen to people when they try to tell you one particular pixel editor is better, or a language is better suited. That's all rubbish. The best tools are the ones that feel right to you. The hacksaw that feels right in your hand even though the blade's about to snap off. The Screwdriver set that only has three Phillips heads remaining. The claw hammer that has no weight to it. The tools that you use because, for you, they're the right tools to use. If they still work, use them."

Wise words!

If you want a tool that is ideal for you, you're not gonna be able to get much closer to the truth than what you do by writing your own.

If it's game dev, then libgdx is pretty nifty, currently compiles to Android (And desktop and WebGL), but I'm sure I read somewhere it's gonna be available for iOS too!

That's a good one Dabz.

Thanks.

Here's one that's not for games. I have not yet installed it

www.mbizmaker.com

This might be good but I cannot believe the addition installations that are required for the creation of an app.

That .NET crap I usually delete from my system.

Still, that sprite page that I uploaded here will come in handy for something like that.

That mBiz looks to require everyone to download their engine which might be a problem for some people since they might now want to have the stuff on their machines.

Very wise words indeed.

Everyone has their own opinions, based on their own experiences and all would say that their approach is better than someone else's. I really hate that elitist crap - they insist that their was is the ONLY way. They are wrong.
