Ups

What did you get done this week.
It's been a whole month since I last did this. Yikes!
When I said I was taking a month off, I guess I really really wanted to have a month off!
In the interim I've coded and released a DS game, spent some time working on the iPhing framework, and also managed to submit the first version of Stringy Things out to Apple. Although god knows how long That'll take to get through..

Did everything turn out as planned?
I wanted to get Stringy Things a bit bigger, but knew that if I tried added more games then and there, that I'd never truely be happy with it, and would carry on trying to build it up for the next 8 months!
Instead, I released it with 2 games included, and will be doing free updates with extra games later.
Seems fair.. 'ish!
Plus it kinda fits in with the whole AGameAWeek idea, only a bit longer, due to me having to wait for Apple each and every time I go to release a new game.
Stupid Apple..
gah..

    Why not?

    Ups

What did you get done this week.
  • Quby bugfixes
  • Greenfoot Gamepads (available here)
  • Documenting Flexi (Old version, and just up to give you idas)
  • Building a game in Quby (here)

Did everything turn out as planned?
The Flexi stuff was done early, but mainly cos I felt really enthused and so got loads done over a couple of days. It's more of a book then documentaion as it's for my brother. This way it's a mix of 'how to use', tutorials, why and some API info.

A few days ago I did an open day at my uni, and I spent most of this chatting to potential students at the Greenfoot section. We were talking about how you can use it for making games and one of the guys said "so could I plug in my XBox pad and use that?". It was a very nice feeling replying with "yes you can, I've just finished that" back at him.

The GamePad library took longer then I had hoped, and was more complicated then expected (due to issues with mixing Java classloaders and native .dlls which I won't go into here). But it works, it saves your gamepad configurations and again it's cool to be able to use a gamepad with playing a game!

The Quby stuff is also going well. I'm building a small game to flush out bugs and missing features, but mostly it proves it can be used. That's a very nice feeling after spending months just looking at raw JavaScript.

    Downs

    What didn't you get done?
  • PlayMyCode v.1

    Why not?
About 2 to 3 months ago me and my brother had planned to have v.1 of PlayMyCode finished and out. It would just be proof of concept, but it would be working. For various (mostly legitimate) reasons that deadline has come and gone. My plan now is to get a new deadline fixed and aim for that.

    Now

What are you working on right now?
    Finishing this Greenfoot

    How's that going?
It's paid work, so until it's out I won't go into specifics. But I'm working on something that will (hopefully) be included in Greenfoot itself. That makes a nice change from sideline stuff that only those with a specific interest ever look at.

    Next

What's the plan for the week ahead?
  • Fix a list of Quby bugs I have
  • Finish the Greenfoot work
  • Finish my Quby game

What did you get done this week.
Since last time, I've been doing various things. I got quite a bit of good work done on my current coding project, and the next big chunk of it is going pretty well. Time to work on it comes in small gluts due to school work etc.

Did everything turn out as planned?
Pretty much. I'm happy with how things are progressing with coding. In other news, I completely screwed up my left leg yesterday, which was painful. This was not according to plan.

    Downs

    What didn't you get done?
Could've done more coding, but most of my spare time in the evenings is spent relaxing.

    Why not?
School + school work = few bits of spare time are spent relaxing.

    Now

What are you working on right now?
Little bits of odd code for school computing classes (for fun), as well as my project ticking away in big chunks of spare time (usually weekends). In addition, my computing teacher has started a programming club on Thursdays at our school, which I'm helping out with. Quite a lot of people in the younger years interested in learning!

    How's that going?
    Pretty well.

    Next

What's the plan for the week ahead?

-Little bits of code for school
-Find a medkit to use on left leg

  • Drew.

Did everything turn out as planned?
    More or less.

    Downs

    What didn't you get done?

    Why not?

Because I spent too much time procrastinating, playing LOTRO and searching eBay for cheap versions of Adobe Flash.

    Now
