I'm off to Dubai during July-August and am wondering, are there any members who currently live/work in Dubai or work for a creative/new media branding agency that has offices in Dubai and might possibily have roles open?

If you do know of a middleweight/heavyweight new media/creative branding agency at Dubai, or someone that might be able to help, even if its for an informal chat - please message me.

Thanks.

I don't think anyone here's from Dubai.
Maybe I'm wrong, though!

Dubai? UAE... interesting. I know they're really pumping money into their infrastructure, and trying to get techs over there. I've heard commercials for Dubai on a few .NET podcasts. They'll probably be looking for whatever they can get.

good luck, zardon!

Thanks a lot.

I'm already going through my contacts, linked, reading books, .. its quite frustrating as most "job posts" are eiter scams or via third parties, which I want to avoid and even searching via business directories can provide businesses that are no longer trading.

Make sure that you go to see 'The World' if you can.

That thing is amazing.

I read a report of sorts on Dubai. Interesting place. The report said that people drive around 80 MPH everywhere, and the only rule of the road is, if you hit someone connected to the royal family, its automatically your fault. Slavery was done away with there some years ago, but things are still bad. From what I remember, the people who were slaves are now on contract, of sorts, and the company owners have them do most of the work for barely any pay. They can't get out, they can't leave, can't look for jobs with other companies. So it might as well be slavery, just under a different name. I think that situation will bring the demise of Dubai and everything around it, as they are bound to revolt at some point.

...Wait, I probably shouldn't be telling you all this before you go over there, lol. Just be careful, bud. Its definately not America.

Well I have family/friends over there, and I am aware of the road issues and I have been doing research in regards to visas, etc. I don't intend to be driving, and one would need an international driving licence anyway.

I did try to look for web-design/development work last year in Dubai online but didn't find a single job post anywhere.

There are major branding agencies already out there, most of whom have offices in London, but there doesn't seem to be the same level of web standards-style development over there - for some reason the majority of the sites I've seen are totally in Flash.

Either the market is very empty (ie: mostly freelancers, etc) or the many successful branding/marketing companies out there are very quiet about it.

The majority of "job offers" I've seen are from people who have gmail accounts, and I just don't trust them. Also, I'd avoid JobsinDubai.com as it asks for payment for job offers.

I've been trying Oglivy, Satchhi & Satchhi (Their website is shocking, and their Dubai website hasn't been uploaded in months!) but I can't think of any other brands.

Last year I went for an interview with a company called Turquoise branding based in London, but other than that I am really struggling to find an agency that is "international", middleweight or otherwise.

As for it "defintley not America", well I'm not American if that helps.
