Assembly failure.

I had ordered a cheapish new Crosstrainer. It arrived yesterday. I started assembling it. The reviews mentioned it was doable.

My IT centric life was no good for knowing tools and parts. I put the wrong side of a part into a screw head. I think that they call that. It was ment to be the left turning side. But I just put some dumb muscle into it and now I broke it.

I need to investigate if I can file out the blubbered screw part and get the step on. Finding a screw tap set in a search engine is impossible it seems in the early 21th century.

I was so disappointed in myself I ordered a new Crosstrainer that wil be assembled by the delivery guy. This was a 2x price device. But Mug it.

No idea if I can fix the cheap Crosstrainer or break it completely.

As a added bonus to myself. I was trying to remove some metal splinters and stabbed myself in the hand. Had to sit the rest of the day with a towel around it. Not a big cut. But I had a beer earlier and blood and alcohol means a tsunami of thinned blood

darn It fingers...

Bugger..
Still, if nothing else, you could try asking the delivery guy to take a look at it. He might be able to solve the issue, and then you'll have TWO!
You can Cross-crosstrain!

That might be an idea. It wil be up to 10 days. So I can think of how to solve the issue myself.

I wil not send it back yet.

I have always been blessed to be very mechanically inclined. But, I make some mistakes at times and there is nothing that makes you feel worse than buying something new and messing it up when putting it together. Being mechanically inclined seems a prerequisite nowadays as often the instructions I get with something are wrong and are for a different or an older model and most people would be completely lost. Our new bed frame comes to mind, the manual was for a much older model and some of the parts are completely different now and attach differently.

I am a musician, my hands are my life. I wear leather work gloves when working on things, and goatskin gloves are thinner, tough and hold up well. I Have one pair I use most that is three years old and I use them for everything including driving. Toss them in the washing machine and dryer and they are still fine. Any holes get sewn up.

If you tend to bust your knuckles a lot, mechanics gloves have rubber protection for the knuckles. Not as much protection as leather gloves though for the palms.

Glad your mishap wasn't worse. Mishap and the problem with assembly happen to all of us. Don't be too hard on yourself. I tend to have a lot of mishaps and am always getting cut, scraped or otherwise injured.

I had not even thought about losing music playing abilities. I can not really use my left hand for a keyboard right now.

A couple of days I started learning how to whistle with the mouth. Close to 20 hours practice in 2 days I discovered 'The Whisling Brothers' and their tutorials. This kind of sped up the process. Lower the Jaw for a lower sound was a tip I really needed Having done so many years of just breathing rythm and blowing music made me get a head start. Getting a actual whistle going was something I could never do.
Listening to the examples in the tutorial I think I am pretty leveled already. Trying to get accustomed to vibrato now.

I noticed a video where you can now enter midi(daw) with the microphone. Control a instrument(s) with vocals. Whistling seems a way I might be able to do that in the future.

Current injuries.,. Left rotator cuff has been torn for almost a year, right one got torn last week. Tendon in right elbow is partially detached as of last week, and left wrist is very tweaked and sore to move and has been for almost two months. Suffered an eye injury a couple of months ago to my left eye, that has left me with permanent vision loss and field of vision filled with black moving spots. Kinda looks like bugs are crawling on things. Also broke my nose at that time and it is still sore.

All that is dwarfed by the bladder and prostate issues that popped up two months ago and are extremely painful.

Won't even mention the arthritis in both knees and hips, and back and neck issues. Been dealing with the knees since '87.

As to whistling, have always been fairly good at it, and can whistle breathing in or out and warble like a bird and other interesting things. Meds I take for IBS dry me out a lot and do affect my whistle a bit, now.

*sighs* I'm so old, I fart dust and cobwebs.

You seem to have had some serious bad luck!

Whistling inwards I could do first. But I need to train it stil. Got into mouth percussion this morning after noticing several chip tunes sounding like it had that sound.

My one grandfather could stick both pinky fingers in his mouth and let out a whistle you could hear a mile away. Never could manage that one, no matter how much I tried.

As to messing up something new... Last fall I got a new guitar and went to hang it on the wall in the studio. Was not paying attention and got the headstock dinged up when it hit the ceiling fan that was going. Talk about feeling bad.

I had ordered a tiny file set with which I have filed flat the first part of the broken screw wire. I was able to get the screw bolt in.

The crosstrainer is fully functional now. It did take a week and something for my hand to heal up.

WooHoo! Now its all set to hang clothes on (what people in this country often use exercise gear for). Glad to hear you got it sorted and you are mended. It could have been worse:

There are some clothes on some of them

Now to get used to crosstraining. The hometrainer I was able to go distances from Amsterdam to Madrid for a month or two.
