JNKPlat, in your hands..



Forget Retro Raider DS.
As much as I liked the idea, every single bit of coding I did reminded me of JNKPlat, and since everyone seemed to like JNKPlat DS, I figured that I'd be less confined to those layered level things, if I just redid from scratch..

So, here we go again!

Another year, another JNKPlat!



That's the current set of blocks.
They are..
Floor, Wall, Ladder, Gem, Spikes, Inny-outey-door things, Slides, Switches, Pushable block, Balloons, Spear Holes, Water and Monkey Bars.

Obvious additions are coloured Key/Door things, Lava, other enemies.

After that, I can't really think of much more.

If you can, stick 'em below.

Also, I'd like this version to play a little different, but without a silly gimmick.. Any thoughts there would be nice!

  • tar pits - they make you move slower
  • pogo stick pickup - allows you to jump higher (for a certain duration)
  • ball o' goo - you can throw it at an enemy so he stick in one spot for a while
  • treasure chest bomb - you thought it was a chest, but then a count down timer starts and you had better start running! (probably best if mixed with chests that aren't explosive)

Tar Pits - Not sure on the "slower" part, but I'm sure I could make use of them somehow..

Pogo Stick - Seems ok, but my jumping code usually sucks ass We'll see!

Ball o' Goo - Sounds good enough!

Treasure Chest - Having drawn a chest, seems viable, but not sure how I'd illustrate "RUN!!" ... Other than having "RUN!!" appear over the chest!

You don't need to tell platdude to run, just have the chest turn into a bomb. Look up the c64 game 'booty' some of the pickups in that game were random bombs, so you had to get a little way away from them before they blew up and killed you. On the plus side though, they also killed enemies, os if one happened to walk past the exploding chest, wollop, dead.

I like that idea, hopfully the platdude series wont go the same way as the dkc games, with game2 intruducing a 3rd character, tha main character being Platsie, and platdude not being mentioned at all

lol! Never knew platdude had a love interest ;P

I was thinking for the chest-bomb it could just show a little countdown above it "3... 2... 1... BOOM". Usually when people see countdown they go "omg gtfo!" and start running away... But maybe landmines would be cool too, perhaps james bond style ones , both proximity and timed ones.

Never had bouncy platforms.. Probably too much bouncing to keep the nice strict "Puzzle" element in check, to be honest.
I've had little springs, but never full platforms.
I mean, at the end of the day, it's just a big-ass spring, but..
May as well just have the springs!

And, No, the nice big 1280x960 desktop image, above, is just something I made a couple of years ago.. *checks* 5 years ago...!! Whew!!
