Wednesday Workshop #120 : The Slots Challenge
Time until Deadline

Week : 10 October 2007
The Reason : Another "just for fun" challenge.

The Challenge : This week, try to make a Slot Machine. They're nice and easy to make, and always fun to play.

Extra Info
7-7-7!

Weekly Rules/How to Enter
You have until Tuesday Night/Wednesday Morning 00:00 BST to submit your levels. ^ See Deadline Link! ^

Wed.Workshop is at SoCoder.co.nr. If you can read this, you're probably already there! I got three cherries!!

Stick your entry underneath this post, leaving a link to your zip or the source of your game, or whatever. Aww. Only two lemons?! (I really should get round to that Upload thing, shouldn't I!)

If you can't figure it out, or have a really rubbish server, send it to Jayenkai@Gmail.com and I'll stick it straight onto the SoCoder (Official Wed.Workshop) site.

Entries will be collected during the week, and then entered into the next week's voting. Jackpot!!! (If there are any entries..)

Please try to keep all entries within small file sizes. 2Mb is the average maximum for files.
Additional Rules are available at the SoCoder (Official Wed.Workshop) site, under the list of previous workshops.

wow, even you didn't do anything for last week. very sad.

damn.. i haven't programmed in like a year. this seems easy but i don't think i'll have time.

maybe i'm just closed-minded but is there any room for creativity with this?

What if this were not a hypothetical question?

Basic Classic "Slots", no, but most modern Fruit Machines have different combo types, and then there's all those little games, and things that pop up as you play, to keep the variety going.

Plenty of possibilities..
Or you can keep it simple!

Taking on Tnt's mini-challenge, to try and make a slot machine as creatively unusual as possible, I've created This.

Now that's what I call a slot machine

Highest score so far : 62

That's genius

I just had a good run and made it across three times, one of which had a bonus... New Highscore : 81

I'm going to try one in 3D... Probably setting sights too high again but there's learning to be had in a challenge and that's what I'm here for

138! Couple of bonus and your away

(Shouldn't these scores be posted in the showcase rather than clogging up this page?) Amazingly addictive for a game of chance Jay!

OK, just to show that I've made an effort despite starting late, here's this week's work in progress. Clearly passed the deadline and unfinished but it's turned into a project that I can now run with for a while longer

Obviously, the graphics won't work but they were only numbers to get me started anyway and I've replaced them for now with text (Imagine the 8 is a bell, the 6 is a cherry and 0 is a bar). The audio was just to kill the mind numbing silence as I racked my brains trying to get it to work (It's just a click sound that probably came from a Blitz game I downloaded back in the BlitzCoder days)

Judge it as a bare bones work in progress and hopefully you'll see where I'm going with it. If you run it in debug mode you see what all the scoring is about. It's Blitz3D so if anyone is desperate to try it as an EXE just let me know and I'll run one up.

Oh, You'll need to make the dat file for it use Notepad if you like and save the following in a file called reels.dat

Oh and the controls... Numberpad based:

The three column relate to the three wheels:

7 8 9 = nudge up
4 5 6 = hold
1 2 3 = nudge down

0 to spin.

Lovely
Shame you didn't have the time to finish it, really.

I like the little "bump" they do at the end of their spins!

Thanks. The bump kind of happened by accident but like the reel thing it's just the reels slotting into the centre position

I may have missed out on the workshop deadline but I'm determined to actually finish this one

As you can see, it's basically all there, just needs whistles and bells and a bit of control over the nudge and hold options.

Let's reconvene in a week's time and see where it is then
