Wednesday Workshop #095 : The Zero-G Challenge
Time until Deadline

Week : 11 April 2007
The Reason : Shroom_Monk suggested it weeks ago, so I guess we should probably do it, already!!

The Challenge : Create a game that has no gravity!

Extra Info
I'll be expecting a handful of space based games, then!

Weekly Rules/How to Enter
You have until Tuesday Night/Wednesday Morning 00:00 BST to submit your levels. ^ See Deadline Link! ^

Wed.Workshop is at SoCoder.co.nr. If you can read this, you're probably already there!

Stick your entry underneath this post, leaving a link to your zip or the source of your game, or whatever. (I really should get round to that Upload thing, shouldn't I!)

If you can't figure it out, or have a really rubbish server, send it to Jayenkai@Gmail.com and I'll stick it straight onto the SoCoder (Official Wed.Workshop) site.

Entries will be collected during the week, and then entered into the next week's voting. (If there are any entries..)

Please try to keep all entries within small file sizes. 2Mb is the average maximum for files.
Additional Rules are available at the SoCoder (Official Wed.Workshop) site, under the list of previous workshops.

Last Week's Games
Three entries!
A mix of Fire, Ice and Mushrooms.

But which one wins?
Comment on the entries, and don't forget to cast your votes. Then the one with a highest rating next Wednesday will be declared the winner.

Italy?
Where did you go? What did you visit?

We went to Rome, and saw lots of sites, like the Vatican, the Collosseum, the Pantheon, and the Ostia ruins. It was pretty good.

Jay's entry for the week.
Thrusteroids

I had planned to do a complete Thrust remake, but the dodgy collision detection was throwing me off, so I plonked some boxes into the asteroid and left it like that.
Might be something worth playing with in the future, but I've enough stuff to finish off right now!

Cursors to thrust, spacebar to start.

Apologies for the flickering (or perhaps that's just my onboard gfx?)

You won't say the same thing about mine!

I decided to give XNA a fair try, and hacked together a small game.

The XNA framework is needed to play the game (linky), but it's only 1.9mb so hopefully it won't be too much of a problem.

>>Link to the game<<

I probably spent more time drawing the helicopter than I did coding the game So keep your expectations low.

Can't get the XNA thing installed. Could be all the other gubbins I have running. I'll try it again later. (If not in XP, then it should work in Vista. .. But then.. I'd have to boot into Vista! Euw!!!)

I went to Rome last year. I was a little dissappointed with the Collosseum, it was a lot smaller then I was expecting. But the Vatican looks ace.

Aw, man.. I gotta go reboot into Vista, now..

2 hours remaining.

Booted into Vista, and then remembered why I hate vista.
Not only did it take about 10 minutes trying to get the thing to run the game, clicking through hundreds of "Are you sure you want to run this?" boxes and a thousand "Oh, I don't know about this. Looks like MS haven't officially signed this" dialogues, the game didn't run because I don't have DirectX in Vista..

Oh yes, that's right.
The Intel Onboard Crapola chip with it's "First Ever Graphics Chip that's certified Vista compatible!" driver that doesn't work.

So back to XP.
I installed .Net 2.0, and then the XNA thing installed.
The game still crashed though. No idea why, sorry.

If you'd like to submit a screenshot, and some kind of description for your game, I'll throw it up on the WW page.

So, um.. Any more entries? Just over 1 hour left..

Roger Federer is go(o)d.
But he is not alone.

Just relax... sometimes there's no need to argue.

That's odd. But there's not much I can do, I only have one computer and the game runs fine over here.

You'll get a screenshot, at least.

Description: You drive around in a helicopter, avoiding missiles falling from something unknown in the sky.

It's probably some XNA issue. I won't be using it again anyway, so next time you'll hopefully be able to play my game.

Hmm. I don't want to sound like a stickler, but.. That image seems to suggest some kind of gravity enduced "Falling Missiles" and "Hovering Helecopter"

Is that really Zero-G?

Hmm... You're probably right, didn't think about the missiles. It doesn't matter anyway, it only took me an evening to make.
