Doing a Spinal...

Today I'm restarting Puzzobomb.
Things were progressing really rather well up until I tried adding the original levels from Taito's Puzznic.
They all loaded amazingly well, since their layouts and block numbers were practically the same as Puzzobomb's.
Unfortunately, they had an extra block in there.
A small (#12 for those counting) brick which floats up and down, carrying any bricks along with it.
When I added it.. It.. Kinda worked!
But not like it should.
It was very jumpy, and really quite messy, too.
So, I cut out the entire drawing/playing code from the game, and am now restarting it, hoping to get everything working the way it's meant to be.

Once done, I'll have 74 levels from "Puzznix" which turned out not to be the original, and 112 from "Puzznic" which did turn out to be the original..

I'll reorganise those, somehow, so there's not too much duplication, and then probably split them back up into smaller "golf sized" packs of levels. (10 neat little 18-level packs if I remove a few of the duplicates)

After that I'll have to complete each and every level in order to collect those "Par" values. Should be easy.. I used to get up to about level 20 on the CPC... ... !

And then of course, it's a case of building up some new levels with the whole Bomb block being used.
I might add some additional blocks along the way, too.
Either way, I'll probably need some help creating the new levels, so if anyone would like to volunteer themselves as a level maker, now's the time to do so. (hit 1+2 on the main menu to get to the editor.)

Still no ds version in the works then?
I think a ds puzzle game with 186+ levels would go down well within the community.

DS version will be worked on as soon as I can get everything working neatly. Shouldn't be too hard to convert the code that's already in the Blitz version.

Still having minor issues with the elevator, in that the blocks are having all kinds of "off center" issues whilst they're in motion on the thing!

Getting there, slowly but surely!

|edit| Oh, yeah, and if I make the block 16x16, the levels fit perfectly into the DS's screen! |edit|

cool, I'm still trying to motivate myself to make that game... the good but secret one.

And so it begins.
With a wee bit of decoding work, and a teensy bit of luck, work on the first new Jayenkai DS game in ages has started.

It's a little less colourful, but it'll do! (although I'll have to get rid of that annoying 2-tone brick block!)

I'll work on getting that level up and running first, then build up the whole menu system afterwards.

Luvly stuff!
