Site Problems

18th December 2006

The problem with most connections isn't the down speed, its the up. Most connections (especially home packages, but it also included buisness ones) have a much higher download bandwidth than upload. Mine has 7Mb/s Down, but only 56 KB/s up. A 1Mb connectio*snip*

Blocking sites from school.

16th December 2006

I think the bottom line is, its a school. It is supposed to be a learning environment. Although i disagree with blocking all sites, the students should be focused and looking at porn or playing games isn't necessarily appropriate for a school environment.

No Floppy drive!

12th December 2006

the majority of new computer now a days don't have floppy drives.. I've taken to pulling them out of older computers and re-using them, and i've also got an external USB one. The nice thing about floppy's is that they don't go out of date, its not like the*snip*

the Ip thing was me i think, cause stealth added a command [ me ] to display the name of whoever was on, and then [ ip ] to display the ip of the person; so i couldnt' see your ip, nor could anyone else, just yourself.

RTS Idea

9th December 2006

I like the idea of massive campaings; Instead of just a single battle, an entire war occuring. I've had an idea wherein the economic/political aspects of the game would take place in a TBS mode, where you look at an entire continent or world and attempt to*snip*

Hello, world, from my laptop

Think about it though ben, they don't have a lot of the safeguards because they don't need them. Nobody cares enough to hack one. Since a lot of servers run on Linux, i'm sure they have a lot better security; but the main reason anybody hacks is to destroy*snip*

no, makes it completely impossible to effect Linux or Mac's. In reality, Mac and Linux systems are more vulnerable than Winodows systems, its just that nobody cares enough to be hacking them. Just think about all the anti-virus and firewall protection that*snip*

QOTD - Storyline

30th November 2006

I've had a couple extensive storylines, just never got to the point in the game engine where i could start implementing them. The rest of my games have been arcade ish, and then i've stopped programming games for a while. So the most ambitious implemented *snip*

QOTD - Quality or Quantity?

29th November 2006

Again, i think this is another "Depends on the game" situation. If i'm making an FPS i'd want 10 good levels; if i'm making a puzzle game i would probably want 100 levels.

Scherererer

QOTD - Resolution

28th November 2006

Yes for 3D games, no for 2D games. The reason why its yes for 3D games isn't just because its easier to do, but its also to make it more scalable for low and high end machines.

QOTD - Lives

25th November 2006

One important thing to look at with any game is this. Having set save points can be frustrating to the player since they usually have to end up re-doing a lot of stuff. You want the player to keep coming back, not get them angry enough to leave.
