Socoder -> Off Topic -> DV+RW drive format

This is probably a stupid question but, can a DVD+RW drive read a DV-RW disc after it has been burned?

(Cause it ain't reading it now)

Also, is there a modification that can make a DVD+RW specific drive read a blank DVD-RW Disc?

does the drive say its just DVD+RW specific and not DVD-RW? Generally the only place I see issues with compatibility is on DVD players for a TV. Is it an old burner?

the drive does not recognize a blank DVD-RW disc
but it will recognize a blank DVD+RW.

I never knew that there was a hardware difference for DVD recorders.

If there is a patch for this I'd like to know since my stack of 100 16x dvd-RWs is useless.

Best Buys will not exchange them. I'll never shop there again.

Eeek!
Yeah, the two formats (+/-) were developed by different companies. After a while, most burners would support both formats, but you still get some that don't. (A lot like the current Blu/HD thing)

Sorry to say, but I don't think it's going to be possible to make them compatible. It's a lazer thing, IIRC.

Yeah, unfortunately there's not just a simple software patch that will fix it, sorry

Just be careful to only buy DVD+RW is the best I can tell you

Instinct, both you and Jay are correct. The manufacturer just replied and they confirm what you say.

I cannot believe that.

Oh well, maybe I'll go to Ebay with the discs.
